Gimme Scripture

Hi everyone last night I taught a devotional to the youth about believing lies and fighting them with Scripture. The kids wrote down on cards lies they tell themselves, or believe when they hear. One of them was

"You should stop eating, you're too fat"


so, all of you recovering from anorexia please give me some scriptures that have helped you overcome your eating disorder so i can pass it along to this girl, Thanks so much.

I used to tell myself that all the time. "You're too fat. You don't deserve to eat."

Number one, God wants us healthy. You cannot be healthy and not eat a proper diet. Our bodies are built to run on spiritual and physical nourishment. We need food to live. God gifts us with food. It is right to eat it. All people deserve to live, no matter what size or shape they come in.

God's love for us depends nothing on our physical appearance, whether too thin or too heavy:

1 Samuel 16:7

But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

Beauty to God is measured in a different way than most humans measure beauty:

1 Peter 3:3-4

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

Those are two that helped me very much. My prayers are with you and this girl.
