  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ghosts?

I posted this in spiritual warfare, but it's pretty quiet over there. Hopefully I can get some more Biblical insight here:

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law have owned a two-family house for about 20 years. They each lived in the home for several years, but have rented it out for the past 7-10 years.

They insist there is an older woman who died in the home before they purchased the property who haunts it to this day. They both claim to have seen her multiple times. On top of that, their tenants have also seen her and mentioned it to them. They just had new tenants move in a week ago and they saw her as well. According to them, she is not evil or malevolent.

I tried to explain that based on scripture, this is not possible. I said dead people don't linger around, they are either in Heaven or Hell. The fact that multiple people have seen this entity and did not know about it previously leads me to believe that they are seeing something. I told them it could be an evil spirit or demon, but they say it's not evil. I explained that they don't have to be doing evil all the time to be evil and these spirits can take on any form.

How do I explain this to them? They think I'm crazy! But I know I'm not.

Thanks in advance...

You can't always explain things to people. However, I wouldn't doubt if a demon were involved. It's not 'normal', and I'm not sure it's legit. I don't believe in ghosts, and the Bible only mentions angels and demons, not dead people coming to the land of the living.

Interesting thought-

When his disciples saw Jesus walking on the water towards them, they thought that he was a ghost at first.

This shows that the jews at that time period may have believed in ghosts. Also, Jesus never corrects them about ghosts existing, he just corrected them on who he was.

This is one of those things not mentioned specifically in the bible. We just need to trust that God is in control.

I know that I have had one of those moments that doesn't seem possible at all. Where you really wonder if you imagined it or there really was something going on above the human level.

Don't tell them it is not possible because I do not recall anthing about it in the Bible.

I do believe God intervenes in human life because if there wasn't any divine intervention then this world would be in complete chaos. He has in the past and if he didn't intervene now then why is there so much good in a world that has been plundered by the devil and his demons?

So back to your question. It could have been a demon. There were demons in Jesus' time that he himself casted out. Just because it doesn't appear evil doesn't mean it isn't.

Just to let you know, if it's not from God then I honestly wouldn't want anything to do with it! It creeps me out that the devil and his demons actually bend the rules of this world to make these things happen for their benefit.

One last thing, I do believe the devil could and would do these things (ghosts, claimed UFOs, situations that don't add up, fortune telling, black arts) so that we would question God's power and control in this world.

BTW-I don't think that they would be able to make the accusation that you are crazy when they claimed they saw a ghost! LOL. It might have been paranoia or halluciation make sure that they keep that in mind. GL:p

Would demons bent on deception act evil? I'm thinking that whether the entity acts evil or not, it is indeed evil. Probably (if I had to guess) looking to discredit Christians, or make people ask questions, since "it acts so nice".

 What she said!

I moved into my husband's house which his ex-wife and daughters (none of whom are mentally stable) said was haunted. Well, guess what? Nothing happened while I was in the house! After my husband's death, my step-daughter moved back in and whatever was latent while I was there is now active again.

Demonic activity in a house can seem benign, but it is not. It is demonic!

Yeah, i agree... if they r not saved, then nothin you say will convince them otherwise. But you can be a witness for Jesus through this. Definately pray, maybe even ask your pastor and some believers to meet there and pray the Demon away. Demons do appear, especially to deceive.

In the other hand, kinda a question for you all. How do we know it isnt an angel? Angels do appear aswell. I was just curious;)

Just for you notice, it's exasperating for someone to say that you could not have seen what you said you saw. Of course, they've seen it and others who have seen the same concur with what is reported. I've seen things, but I ignore them, because I know that God is not a God of confusion. Just listen to their story and and be as fasinated as they are. It's all entertainment, unless it turns threatening. Then you will know it is demonic and that something has to be done about it.

God bless you,

The Guide
