• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I want to get serious about doing therapy that will help me beat my ocd. I am planing to see a new therapist on june 3rd and i want to be able to do the things that she tells me to do that are not sinnful to do to get better.

I also am working on doing self directed therpay that i help me. I reamember reading the line "do the opposite" in a book where the person was saying do the oppiste of what the ocd tells me to do. With the Lords help he has been helping me with me telling myself to "do the opposite".

Do you all have any advice on the best ways to get the most out of therapy? And do you all have any advice on the best way to do self directed therapy?

Doing the opposite is a great idea! Saying "oh well" is good too. And what a great thread starter this morning! :)

Concerning what the therapist will have you do - some of it may seem sinful because of your ocd (it sure felt that way to me), but keep in mind that God understands ocd and what you need to do to get healed and recovered. What may seem sinful to our ocd minds, may not at all be so.

I'm so proud of you, and certain that you will see improvement. You really want to try hard, and that's the first step. When we realize what we've been doing doesn't work, we just hear our Lord's voice and "Be still and know that I am God". We need to be still in our ocd and hear God's voice in our recovery.

I am so happy for you this morning. May God bless all your efforts. :prayer:
