• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am an alcoholic and would not be sober if it were not for the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Try attending some AA meetings and learn how to work the 12 Steps into your life. It will free you from the alcohol, and help you get your life in order. Also, Get yourself a Life Recovery Bible and learn what it says in Scripture about recovering from alcoholism.

Finding you over here too, brohammer?

I know how you feel exactly. That feeling of not being loved and trying to fill it with whatever else comes along... usually bad.

Be strong. Be vigilant. TRUST in Him to get you through it.
Do not drink. Not even a sip. Don't let the enemy win. Depend on Christ for Victory.

And if you fall, take Jesus' hand and get up again. You can do it with HIS STRENGTH!

Grace and blessings to you (keeping you in my prayers),
Vince

(I wrote about my experiences in a book you might find useful. The title is Brave Fish.)

I struggled with alcohol in my life a lot. Fasting helped me to get over it but it took a long time to get to the point where I was willing to fast. It helped me not only with the self-control but it drew me closer to God. He used fasting to set me free from alcohol and I have been free ever since.

I have also heard of some people finding good help with hydrochloride used as an antagonist.

I would be careful with AA advice. I personally believe that it is not a Christian organization and will steer you further from God by substituting a false view into your thinking. It won't do you any good to be delivered from Alcohol if you exchange the truth of God for a lie. To go from drunkeness to a form of idolatry isn't deliverance, it is deception. I realize that is very strong language but I have studied AA for a long time and it's teachings are not even close to being Biblical.

You have no idea what you are talking about. The AA 12 Steps is based totally on Scriptures. Bill Wilson patterned AA's 12 Steps on the Oxford Movement, a Christian organization that existed back in his time.

I have been a believer for 38 years, and a member of AA for 22 of them. In studying the AA Big Book's first 164 pages, as well as the 12 Steps, using the Life Recovery Bible, I have been able to see how the Steps are based in Scripture.

I go to meetings to share my love for God with those who are struggling to get sober. I don't ask for advice from the people at meetings. I speak to my Spiritual advisor, a mature Christian woman. I work the 12 Steps of AA with my sponsor, and she has never encouraged me to do anything that is in violation of God's Word.

You should not spread lies about a program you know nothing about. I have never been encouraged to practice idolatry in the past 22 years. Nobody has ever encouraged anyone to go against the teachings of their church. AA respects all religions, and encourages people to develop their relationship with God.

I am really upset by your lies.
