  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All of my animals are fixed. 2 dogs and a cat. I dont see where God would have a problem with it. It does keep unwanted animals from going to a shelter or even worse...put to sleep because there was nobody to take them in and love them. I'm sure God would prefer us to keep the animal population from exploding out of control. It also makes your pets live a healthier , longer life. If you have them fixed they have less of a chance of getting cancer...the younger you have them fixed, the better the chances they will not get cancer. Thats what our vet told us.

I think it's resonsible to get your pets fixed. With female animals (particularly dogs) if you don't intend to breed them, letting them go into heat constantly without being able to mate not only is uncomfortable for them, but it also shortens their life span.

Animals that are not intended for breeding live longer, healthier lives when they are spayed or neutered. They're also less likely to want to urinate on things to mark their territory and they're less likely to run away to find a mate.

I don't believe God has a problem with it.

there is NOTHING wrong with getting your dogs (or cats) fixed. There is already a horrendous overpopulation problem.I volunteer at a local animal shelter, and there are unwanted kittens and puppies brought in every day. We are a no-kill shelter, so we've got animals in the hallways, in the reception room, in people's offices...etc. Every single animal recieves the best care possible, but with so much overpopulation and not enough people willing to donate their time, they don't all get the attention they need every day and the situation is absolutely heartbreaking. I wish people would stop breeding animals period until the ones we have now are taken care of, but that's not going to happen. We have pregnant and nursing mothers in the shelter too...in hallways and occasionally we have a quiet room free. Again, that's due to people not wanting to get their animals fixed, and not wanting to deal with the situation that we as humans (in general) have brought about. Even if more people were willing to offer their homes as short-term foster homes, that would help. The animals are socialized more, and they make better companions. The animals are just better off if they are fixed. There is far too much overpopulation to begin with. It's a shame the way I see "man's best friend" treated day after day.

(if I sounded rude or snippy or anything, I truely didn't mean to. This is just something I feel very strongly about. I adore animals and seeing that many sweet, wonderful animals go through life virtually unwanted except by me and the other volunteers and employees will break your heart. They deserve a home of their own, with a family of their own).

I have to agree with everyone that has posted. I also work in animal rescue and there are so many animals out there with no homes that it would be very irresponsible to have unaltered pets. Even if you don't think your dog could get pregnant, male dogs can smell a female in heat from over a mile away and they will dig under or jump over a fence to get to it. Plus, the average person doesn't have a clue about breeding. There's so many tests that have to be run that responsible breeders will do to ensure their dogs health and breeding abilities. The average American doesn't have a clue as to what OFA is, what it's for and why you want it done.

And like FervidPrincess pointed out, it makes your pets healthier. YOu completely reduce the chances of uterine and testicular cancer, you never have to worry about pyometria and if you spay a female before her first heat, you reduce the chances of your dog developing mammary cancer by over 50%. SOunds good to me cause those vet bills can get pricey.

I believe spaying/neutering falls into the category of man having dominion over the earth and its creatures. It's our God-given responsiblity to make sure that animals are cared for. Others above me have posted the many benefits of fixing our pets. Our pets obviously aren't able to reasonably make plans for a family, so we must do it for them. Fixing is the best thing for them.
