Has anyone been noticing the trend that has been going on in Hollywood, the small screen, and comic books. So many franchises have been tanking in the last 4 years or so, and it's been due to getting away from their canon, and other basic themes and concepts (that got them their dedicated audience), to instead push some kind of Social Justice theme. (Ghost-busters 2016 seems to mark the start of this trend)
At the present moment, "Birds of Prey" is the latest victim of this trend. But there are a number of others. CW's Batwoman is especially cringe, and would have been cancelled long ago if it was on another network. The latest Doctor Who, likewise has been tanking and its old followers abandoning ship.
There have been a number of comic book titles or new proposed movies that seem to be ditching their canon Caucasian white male protagonist to instead have a woman, or a minority take his place. This sort of thing infuriates the old fans of the franchise, (who are for women and minorities, but don't want their favorite character subverted for social reasons and would prefer a new fresh character be created when it comes to this sort of thing).
Star Wars and the Terminator have been the only two franchises near and dear my heart that have been affected by this trend. With Star Wars at least their were some financial reasons for them to push their new diverse characters over the old ones (Disney was salivating at the idea of getting all the royalties for toys, t-shirts etc. rather than giving George Lucas his cut).
