Do you sleep with a light on? No, but I like falling asleep to some sort of drone (white noise, fans, water sounds, humidifiers, etc.)

They're several kinds, really-- not necessarily connected. All Music Guide is your friend!

Space Rock-- early Pink Floyd, Gong, Hawkwind, Ozric Tentacles, Ash Ra Tempel, etc.

Minimalism-- Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, et al

Free Improvisation-- Morphogenesis, AMM, Experimental Audio Research, Derek Bailey, etc.
