  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are there any George Harrison fans here?

All during the Beatles' reign of pop music, John and Paul usually let George contribute about 2 songs per album. Even on the last album, Abbey Road. But the two songs he contributed ("Something" and especially "Here Comes the Sun") were both masterpieces. I think they almost transcended the Beatles music, in a way. Both Lennon and McCartney have stated that George's songs on that last album were better than their own.

It's sad. He never had such great hits after these two. It kind of makes me wish the Beatles could have gone on...just a bit longer, and let George write some more masterpieces like these.

It was pretty tough for George or Ringo to compete with the Lennon / McCartney song writing team, but he held his own. In addition to being an excellent guitarist, George was the spiritual leader of the Beatles. They followed him to India to study with a guru, and learn to play the sitar :)

I think Lennon and McCartney wrote songs separately, but they were just credited as co-writers.

Paul is my favorite, if only for his bass playing. I also thought his post-Beatles solo work was the best of all of them.

I know that "All Things Must Pass" was a good album. I haven't listened to it in a while though.

As far as the Lennon-McCartney songwriting team. They wrote songs together, separately, and sometimes one contributed small parts to the other's main song. But while they were Beatles, they made a contractual agreement to have all of the songs they wrote (either together or separately) to be credited to "Lennon and McCartney".

It's pretty evident that Paul loved George's song "Something", just from listening to his playing. His bass guitar is practically a counter-melody of it's own. But he took no co-writing credit.

Here is the bass part shown by a Youtubing fan.

Poor Ringo. Nobody loves him :bigeye:

I loved Ringo's playing during the Beatles years. He was as good a musician as any of them overall. The Beatles loved him, too. They asked him to join their band after they got their record contract. (Poor Pete Best.)
