• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

After a couple of weeks of feeling like I was flunking out of kindergarden I managed to get an online library set up. It doesn't have a lot on it right now and the pages need some work but it's up and running here:

If you guys have any suggestions for books and publications feel free to make them here or at the discussion forum. The books I'm putting on there are not copyrighted because copyrights expire after about 90 years and the book then becomes public domain. There are also things like the Human Genome Project (HGP) gallery that is free to use if proper credit is given to HGP and the Department of Energy in the caption, I'll set up a few pages just for them. MIT also have some free courseware but the video is very poor and the audio hard to follow. What I want to do is prepare pages that will help the listener to follow along with the Professors lectures.

I have two primary goals. I am, yet again, trying to put may own study bible together. Since my interests are apologetics, theology and creationism that's what I'll have in my library. I'm also going to post some reviews of the Scientific literature I have become familiar with over the past few years.

So the next time you need a break from CF stop by, check it out and let me know what you think.

Grace and peace,
Mark

So you're saying they have to be at least 90 years old?

Being a writer, I don't like that law. What about being able to pass down your legacy on to your children and grandchildren? Are you sure it's not a default? What I mean is - if nobody renews the copyright, then it becomes public domain.

No child, you have nothing to worry about.

Being a writer, I don't like that law.

I am wondering what law you are referring to

All I'm trying to do is to find literary works with no copyrights attached. It's not impossible so I'll see you in my dreams.

Check the link, it's free of copyrights, that's all I'm saying.

Grace and peace,
Mark

The law, at least in the United States says that a copyright only lasts 90 years.

The Public Domain, an Endless Topic

In the Copyright HowTo section, Project Gutenberg presents its own rules for confirming the public domain status of eBooks according to US copyright laws. Here is a summary. Works published before 1923 entered the public domain no later than 75 years from the copyright date. (All these works are now in the public domain.) Works published between 1923 and 1977 retain copyright for 95 years. (No such works will enter the public domain until 2019.) Works created from 1978 on enter the public domain 70 years after the death of the author if the author is a natural person. (Nothing will enter the public domain until 2049.) Works created from 1978 on enter the public domain 95 years after publication (or 120 years after creation) if the author is a corporate one. (Nothing will enter the public domain until 2074.) Other rules apply too.

Personally, I think that nothing as far as property rights should be perpetual. I do believe that authors should get due credit but royalties have an expiration date.

Grace and peace,
Mark

If you ever decide to post nonfiction the first book I would do is Pilgrim's Progress. It has some great biblical truth to it and is a classic that has flourished for centuries.

Yea, I have that one and there is another one that is a classic called, Holy War. I have it somewhere on my hard drive or in one of my discs. Sure, I can add it, appreciate the suggestion.
