Genesis Space Capsule

I just read part of a news thing on Yahoo Genesis Space Capsule . It reads as "The capsule held billions of atoms collected from the solar wind during a mission that was designed to reveal clues about the origin and evolution of the solar system."

Now, My question is that are they trying to find the origin of the solar system? Or are they trying to find the evolution of the solar system? My thought is that if they are trying to find the evolution of the solar system, then they will never find it. You can't find something that never happened.

Anyways, they're looking back towards the start of the solar system. ~4-5 billion years ago, the solar system was a big ring of cosmic dust with the sun in the middle of it. They're attempting to look back into that time period now.

Or something. Shrug.

In this case evolution could simply be referring to the changes that have occurred since the creation of the solar system--and yes, it has changed, remember that asteroid that crashed into Jupitor?

Does anyone find it a bit odd that the capsule crashed. Two stunt pilots for hollywood could not catch it from falling.

No, I do not find it a bit odd. NASA (and much of space exploration for that matter) has a history of mistakes every now and then (remember the probe to Mars that crash landed a few years ago?)

No; the pilots were supposed to catch it using its parachute, which failed to deploy. Nothing weird about that.
