I hope I have posted this in the right place.

Can anyone tell me what "The Sons of God", means in this passage of scripture?

GENESIS 6:1-3

When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them,the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

2. the sons of God saw the daughters of men--By the former is meant the family of Seth, who were professedly religious; by the latter, the descendants of apostate Cain. Mixed marriages between parties of opposite principles and practice were necessarily sources of extensive corruption. The women, religious themselves, would as wives and mothers exert an influence fatal to the existence of religion in their household, and consequently the people of that later age sank to the lowest depravity.

v. 2): The sons of God (that is, the professors of religion, who were called by the name of the Lord, and called upon that name), married the daughters of men, that is, those that were profane, and strangers to God and godliness. The posterity of Seth did not keep by themselves, as they ought to have done, both for the preservation of their own purity and in detestation of the apostasy. They intermingled themselves with the excommunicated race of Cain:

Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy

in context this is before man..Job 38:4,thes are other good examples 1:6, 2:1
thus these are angels... Jude 6-7 explains what was happening..2 peter 2:4 is there judgement...1 peter 3:19-20

in the New Testament believer that are in Christ are also called sons of God since God resides inside of us...

Also bear in mind that the offspring of these unions produced giants. If it were merely the line of Seth and the line of Cain no abnormal offspring would have been produced.

There are Bible scholars who believe these offspring are the demons which seek embodiment (that is, to possess a human or animal).

There are also scholars who believe the "sons of God" were angels who possessed men and then married whoever they chose and from that union came the abnormal offspring.

Furthermore, there in nothing inherent about being born to either the line of Cain or the line of Seth that would make one religious or not. There is only a messianic lineage that runs like a thread through the human genepool from Adam to Christ (see Luke 3:23-38).

Further still:

Genesis 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

1e) what is complete or entirely in accord with truth and fact (neuter adj/subst)

This is how it would expressed that he was not only a just man walking with the Lord / finding grace in the eyes of the Lord as the verses around this point indicate, but that his genes were not corrupted.

A case might be made that his was the last of the Seth line that was uncorrupted by Cain. And the Lord brought the flood partly to preserve this line.

But that is such a drastic measure.
