How do I pick one of these things out any idea?

Its not one of those whole house deals, it is gas, we would need a conerter kit for propane but I heard that can also be bad for the engine doing that.

Not sure,

I picked this one

Seems to have decent reviews and decent running watts, anyone with any experience with these have any input?

Also, what do you believe is a reasonable price for getting an electrician to hook this up (or rather get the electric box so that its all ready) anyone have an idea? Because if we order this tonight, I want to be able to have an electrician out this weekend, but Im not sure if it has to be here for him to do that.

There are a lot to connecting a generator to your house than just buying it and wiring it up. City, County, State, regs, permits, liscensed electrician, Electric Co. approval. It seems like a daunting task but it is worth it. I posted in the Morman thread a whole house generator from Lowes that you would be more satisfied with. And it is already set up for LP gas. This gen uses about 2.9 gals per hour under max load. You may need another tank, or a larger tank. But when you are on the gen set you keep everything turned off unless it is absolutely necessary.

Thanks, I am trying to avoid the big box stores myself, and I dont want a whole house generator. Its quite unecessary.

I am in South Carolina, and this one states its not for sale in Califorina, so I hope thats staying within one regluation, and I was certainly going to hire a licensed electrician, and I would think if he is licensed he would pull all the necessary permits and follow all the regulations.

I just want something to turn on to be able to draw water up from the well, when we need it, like when we might need to take a shower, or keep one of the freezers at a decent temp. But nothing that runs constantly that needs that many tanks of gas.

The one in your previous post will certainly do the job plus more. But please do use a licensed electrician to make up cord and teach you the use and safety.

My wife Barbara and I were just talking about this earlier today. We are not looking for a big one, just something for emergency needs when and if the solar pops off for some reason.

The generator thing is tough~~~noisy enough that when times are real tough guys with more guns than I got will come and steal it away...not like you can run the thing indoors....

REMEMBER...if you own a car you own a generator...I'd have to dig out those podcasts but remember listening to Survival Podcast episode talking about doing this.

Check out Steven Harris for ALL THINGS generator & energy related...he's the guru you've been looking for ;)

This one is pretty cool (its got built in alarm) LOL

I am not really fearful of that, but I would not be getting one for any longer term reason but for a hurricane or something like that now.

I did call an electrician on the one I picked out, but they did not get back to me.

I wil check it out (thanks)
