Of course we sometimes can feel the effects of our parents' and perhaps grandparents' sins, but that doesn't mean we are held accountable for them.

You sum it up well. I've seen firsthand how family members' actions can either benefit or hurt.... and a lot of it has to do with how much of an influence Christ is allowed to be in the family.

 Greetings from a sunny South Africa

I am of the opinion that in order to meaningful discus this topic it is imperative to determine where these "curses" do come from.

Lets start in the Bible. Ex 20:5 states amongst others the following: "...... for I the Lord thy God am a jealous god, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and forth generation of them that hate me." (my underlining). Now it is common cause that this scripture forms part of the 10 commandments and these commandments were given by the Lord himself. According to this scripture, it is the Lord that institutes curses over those that hates him and not the devil as many would like to believe.

Yes, these generational curses do exist, but only for the offspring of those folk who hates the Lord but for us who loves the Lord ...... no curses. However should there be such a curse on you, it is broken the same day you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Paul wrote in 2 Cor 5:17-19: "17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation."

There are really a number of scriptures in order to indicate/proof that the sins (iniquities) of the parents will NOT be held against the children. Each individual will have to repent for his/her own actions. I just sometimes think that generational curses provides me with a reason or even worse an excuse to sin. It provides a backdoor not to accept responsibility for my actions. A typical case of "BLAME IT ON THE BUNNY."

Paul wrote in Gal 5:19: "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these;" and then list 17 various aspects including drunkeness, witchcraft, adultery and fornication. From this, it is very clear that a person guilty of these activities are acting in the flesh and not because of some generational curse. It is our choice!!!!

 Be BLESSED by the BEST and stay within the confinements of PEACE
