  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

OK, I don't like the idea of boys in girl scouts and girls in boy scouts. I don't like the idea of a girl prom King or a guy prom Queen. I don't like the switching of all of these roles.

So you know what: when I can go in the girls bathroom, when I can be on the girls athletic teams, when I can mother children etc. it'll be (somewhat) understandable

Okay........... got a point other than just wanting to express your opinion that somehow boy and girl scouts and homecoming kings and queens has anything to do with switching gender roles?

Well, allow me to desagree.
I want to see a woman driving an F-1 car - and in a decent way (that excludes Danica Patrick, sorry).
I want to see women fighting for jobs on the same conditions as men - and receiving the same salary, something that is still rare.
I want men to, in a divorce, keep the couple children more frequently.
In a divorce, I want men in lesser jobs to recive a @#%%&* pension from their ex-wives, for a change.

And, as an information for the OP, some night clubs already have unissex bathrooms.

Boy Scouts is, definitively, for boys. A King is, definitively, a male. Girl Scouts is, definitively, for girls. A Queen is, definitively, a female.

The boys bathroom is, definitively, for boys. The girls bathroom is, definitively, for girls.

coyoteBR - I pretty much agree with what you've said.

Okay.. so what's the ethical or moral dilemma that needs discussing?

A queen is a queen is a queen? Just goes to show how many pride parades you've gone to I guess. In the same way a Pope is a man...unless her name is Joan.

When you put up gender barriers the natural result is people crossing them in order to fulfill thier dreams, whether that is to become the first female "congressman" in 1916 by Jeanette Reakin or Due the Award Winning Civil War Doctor Mary Wilkins who prefered wearing men's suits and top hats in 1923 it was declared legal (by the Attorney General) for women to wear pants. Or simply for men to aspire and dream of being women on the stage as in the days of shakespeare (and thus for women to dream of acting as women on the stage, and then as men).

As for bathrooms. I go in there to get rid of body waste, by all the hoopla and concern about it, could you please let me know what you are doing that requires some sort of special sanctity?

Modern man wants to create everything according to his own desires.
That's the reason for the blatant denial of objective reality and its replacement for some pleasing opinion.

Sadly, some of these opinions have taken such a strong root in people's minds that many nowadays do not even know their own gender.

Your argument is doubtful and without merit. There is very little gender law that forces girls to join the Boyscouts and boys to join the Girlscouts. The only laws out there that mention gender are those that prohibit discrimination as far as pay in the workplace, sexual harassment, etc. I think most women and girls want to be women, and boys and men want to be men. Women do not want to go into men's bathrooms, and they certainly won't allow men into theirs, because men are not the cleanest of bathroom patrons!

Surely, there are more important situations to focus on other than the silly issues such as this one.

There is a branch of the Boy Scouts called the Venturers that admits boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 18. Frankly I don't see why anyone should have a problem with that.

Here's one for you: Women are known to be weaker physically than men. Should a woman be able to be in the infantry, considering that most women can't even pick up their own bodyweight?

It's okay if a girl wants to join the Boy Scouts. But let a 16 year old boy join the Girl Scouts, and all of a sudden you have problems.

If a particular woman can fulfill the role of an infantryman then what most women can do is not even vaguely relevent.

In my experience, in terms of public toilets, women are much more messy than men.

What's that got to do with gender roles? If I am able to pick up my own body weight does that make me not fit some gender role?

I can't beleive that I didn't think of what KalEl76 said.

So, you're saying that if a particular woman can than yeah. Well what about the draft? It's completely random. Should women be in it because some can?

I still don't understand what this has to do with gender roles?

Should all women not be in the infantry because they are women or should women who cannot perform the physical requirements (as well as men who cannot) be excluded from certain military job titles?

The draft is for military service in general, if a draft is instituted I don't believe only men should be required to serve.

Conscripts are a completely separate issue from professional soldiers. What's your point - to keep throwing stuff until you find something that sticks?

Oh so you're not saying anything?

You said you don't like all this switching of roles.. what roles? How do you define gender "roles"?
