Then, what do you think this means:
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell [Gehenna].
Matt. 10:28
This what it means:
It resembles and has a connection to what God said in Genesis 2:17
"for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die." (die, kill, destroy)
So how did they die on that day when they sinned? Immediate spiritual/soul death? Yes. How? By sin and separation from God. Immediate physical death? No. And how long they lived? About 930 years? Yes. They were both ‘dead’ (soul) and ‘dying’ (body) while still breathing. They still had a dead soul and dying body. Its a dead, dying, breathing body and soul. That is what God says death is. That’s how sin and separation from God kills/destroys. It is same afterlife but more severe than now for the unbelievers.
In the present world, there are struggles, sin and death and separation from God in this
temporary life but presently there is still God’s grace and His light shining. The present world is a shadow of Gehenna because there will be
everlasting struggles, sin and death and separation from God without God’s grace and His light.
Garden of Eden is the paradise where believers will live a eternal glorious life and outside is Gehenna where unbelievers will be cast out to a eternal painful life of death, just as Adam and Eve were cast out.
Every
unbeliever is dead while they are also experiencing
death in their present world and it will be similar in
Gehenna but
more severe and everlasting. Every
believer is alive while they are experiencing
life in their present world and it will be similar in
Paradise but
more glorious and everlasting.
You may ask me how
believers are experiencing life in the present world? Well, it is because of the Holy Spirit that gives us life which is our gift of salvation. How? It is by the fruits of the Spirit that we are experiencing life, that is through God's love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These fruits are bringing life unto believers soul and body in their
daily present state as they are not separate from God. And we will have more of that in Paradise, for eternity.
And how
unbelievers are experiencing death in the present world? No God's love, No real joy, No real peace, No real forbearance, No real kindness, No real goodness, No faithfulness, No real gentleness and No self-control. These results of sin and separation from God are bringing death unto unbelievers soul and body in their
daily present state. And they we will have more of that in Gehenna, for eternity.
While we all physically die here, nobody dies after resurrection from death. (some are resurrected to everlasting life and some to everlasting death. Daniel 12:2, John 5:29)
When God destroys someone, that person will suffer destruction for eternity. That is how severe God's destruction will be. God can do that. I don't think it is like a man's definition of 'just put in fire and then gone like a burnt paper'. I hope you will meditate on these points and pray about it.
