  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

ive been told that the bible says that if you go through alot it means God has something big planed for you. i was just wundering were this might be found

I don't believe the Bible says anything like this.

It does say that the rain falls on the just and the unjust, meaning that bad things happen to all of us sometimes.

That's just a result of living in a fallen world.

I always have to laugh at the people who say, "accept Christ and He'll make your life better".

Aside from the fact that accepting Christ isn't Biblical, what about people who serve Christ who face persecution and torture everyday for their faith? When does all of this fun and prosperity kick in for them?

No, bad things happen. It's not a work of the Devil, it's just the way that the world works.

The best thing we can do when bad things happen is to rely on God to get us through it and thank Him for the opportunity to grow in His grace.

Hi Phillip, welcome to CF!

In answer to your question... I don't think you're going to find a verse or a passage in the Bible that says specifically that God has "big plans" for you if you're going through a lot.

However, there are examples of men and women in the Bible who had a lot of harships before they were given something "big". For example, Read Genesis chapters 37 & 39-45, about Joseph's life and the plans God had for him. Also, read the book of Ruth. Or read about David and all the things he went through while waiting to become king.

In the parable of the Talents (Matthew 25) Jesus said that the one who is faithfull with a a few things will be put in charge of many things.

I believe that if we surrender our lives to God, everything we "go through" is preparing us for later things. The later things may not be "great things" as the world measures greatness but God does have things planned for all of us and if we let Him teach us, if we are faithfull with the few things, I believe He will give us greater responsibilities. You may never become a king or a prime minister but if you are faithful to God with the small things, and remain faithful even in difficult times, I believe God will entrust you with greater things.

Well, my pastor (whom I'm arguing with at present - oh well), said something on point one Sunday. He said a piece of clay can go through the fire and come out very ugly, unshaped and hard. However, if the clay has yielded to the potters hands, the fire will make it beautiful.

We must yield (surrender) in every test or fire to the will of the Lord, and let him form us.

But we do know that ALL things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to purpose. Romans 8:28 (emphasis added).

also see:
1 Pet 4:12-16: “ Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.

Rom. 5:3-6: “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us, For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.”
