Just a reference for other Christians -
Aposcatastasis was condemned in the Second Council of Constantinople in 543
Christian History is also a very persuasive tool, to show that the ideal of a common '
Sola Scriptura' has not been reached. With the abundance of knowledge now available to the common man, it leaves people wondering.
Why did it take 500 years to make such a decision? Who made it and why should I agree?
In the kingdoms of today's world, where numerous governments have given the individual the totality of free thought, Iraneus would have had a field day having his writings extend far beyond what he penned in "Against the Heresies".
Frankly at this time more than ever before, a person could make the case, that through these earthly kingdoms we find ourself living in, God is once more allowing the individual "
to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints" and to search "
the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so". An unprecidented period of time that allows for an approach ideally suited for an individual's pursuite of
Sola Scriptura's happiness.
The pages of opposing doctrines are readily available online where one person's heresy is another's truth. Where those teachings clash and both sides claim....
As Eubius records St. Polycrates use of Sola Scriptura about what is historically known as the Quartodeciman controversy:
"
For those greater than I have said 'We ought to obey God rather than man'." (Church History (Eusebius) > Book V,
Chpt 24, v. 7. newadvent.org)
Where yet another council, the Council of Nicæa (325) lays a foundation oppossed to the pro-Jewish paschal date stance taken by St. Polycrates, recorded as well with St. Polycarp too. But somehow in religious circles, those who's doctrinal progression claim an anscestry from those councils, we still find both men referred to and acknowledged as Saints. Yet others who try and take the same doctrinal stance on passover espoused by those men
today....
Take a look, a Catholic Encyclopedia's comments surrounding the original issue within the Christian world. It's an interesting read, ht....newadvent.org/cathen/05228a.htm
A though provoking situation to say the least. I'd say we're in a prime time to "
work out your own salvation with fear and trembling", where another man's or some alledged authorative council sancitioned from heaven decision for you is
dramatically reduced. To the point where an attempt to impose and force a doctrine on another person is limited mostly to the expression of "burn in hell".
