yah but your point was that a person (actualy lets make that a clever person who actually knows about games) would play the demo and then buy those games. Well a clever person wouldn't instal the demo's because everyone knows demos suck. A clever person would take one look at the terrible graphics, substandard engine, lame game play, boring story line and just general tackyness of those games and then refuse point blank to buy them.

That's great for your personal opinion. I am pleased you have such conviction in your own personaly tastes. May the grace of God and the peace of Jesus Christ go with you in all that you do.

I could argue about some of the games but there is no point arguing on what is nothing more than my opinion vs your own. You may like Ferarris, and I may like Porches..... no one is wrong.

However your post has proved my point. My point was that demos are available to install and play, and on the merit of which, the prospective buyer can make a desision.

Oh I will question 1 thing. You say "Substanderd Engine" but I covered Unreal, Half Life, and Quake in all renditions.... what other widely used FPS engine is there?

Please let me know as the more I understand about my chosen industry the better.

Only the other day I learned that even Splinter Cell was created using the Unreal Engine. Amazing isn't it.

I've bought many games after playing the demos. I've also saved money by NOT buying many more games based on the demos.

It's ok... i got to the bottom of it. It was an act of Bob lol

I tend to buy most of my games (Freelancer, Warcraft 3 & FT, Star Wars series stuff) However, I do have some games that are cracked versions that I get at LAN parties so we can all play the same game. The thing about that is that I don't really play many games anyways (the ones I really play a lot, I own) so I'm not exactly concerned about it. Whatever.

And I do buy games, like I said. If they are worth my money. Games where the developers release them filled with bugs with the ideas of: "We hyped it up so much, but it sucks... whatever, we'll 'patch' it later." I abhor the business plan that many gaming companies adhere to: "We'll fix it in a later update... who cares if the game crashes on 95% of the computers it runs on at the moment. We'll say it's their fault for not having a $4k machine. Too bad suckers." How many console games (old-school console, like N64 and PS1 and even earlier) did you see come out with patches.... um... they didn't. Developers took time to test and fix the stuff. I'm sick of the apathetic attitude coupled with greediness that many companies have nowadays.

Um. So ya. I buy games if the developer has put in the time to make it worth my time to buy. Not "release now, make it work later - we only want their money".

EDIT: I just read the posts above me and ya. Demos = (n) (thumbs down in MSN speak) They suck. They are generally speaking the best the developers have. And that's that. The demos are made to sell the game. They are HYPE (translation - a load of BS). You don't get to see the glitchy **** that the rest of the game is somprised of because they actually don't want you to see that until *after* you paid them the money.

Yeah that's whats good about some games like Delta Force. You only need the CD for the HOST on a LAN game. No other machines need the CD so you are welcome to install on as many PC's as you want. YOu just cant play Single PLayer or host a game without the CD (Shame about Delta Forces engine though )

Also totaly agree with you on the whole "Patching" thing.... but dont throw too much blaim on the developers and development companies. 9 times out of 10, games are released full of glithces because the PUBLISHERS push the deadline to "get the game out by christmas" etc. The more the development company turn round and say "But it CANT be done... it wont be ready" the more the publishers say "Dont forget where your funding comes from!!!"

The development house is 'the workers' but the publisher is 'the wallet'

I know it is illegal but if my net was faster i would download games.

I've downloaded some NES and Super NES games and emulators, but not computer games. Although my friend burned a Half-Life CD for me once and he's gonna burn me a copy of another game.
