George R. R. Martin is a gifted author. But talent alone is not a litmus test for morality. Where one draws the line is subject to conviction and susceptibility. I saw the series and intended to read the books. But when I attempted to do so I had no connection to the storyline. I didn’t have the same reservations with Tolkien or Rowling for that matter.
I’d put it in a similar category as Rome for the graphic scenes. Whether the series is edifying is personal opinion. While I understand the premise of entertainment; I can’t dismiss the liberties creativity brings nor the responsibility of discrimination for people of faith.
A few years ago a fashion designer presented a collection with a black sabbath theme. It was held in a church. Some would call it blasphemous and many Christians would fall in that group. Others would reference entertainment and artistry. Which is true?
It would appear that sensibilities are the measuring stick for most. The narrow path isn’t easy to tread. We fail often.
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart.“ —Proverbs 21:2
