  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I host a No Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament every Sunday at my place. We all buy in for $10 ($20 on special occasions like the Superbowl) and then we divide the chips evenly. Usually your $10 gets you $28.50 worth of chips to play with. The payouts are usually to 1rst, 2nd and 3rd place, 3rd just getting their money back.

We keep the entry low because money is not the focus of the game, but having a value attached to the chips makes the game serious. It's a better game, because you don't get some whacko going "all in" with rags because "it doesn't matter".

I see my $10 as cost of entertainment for the evening. I paid 10, I had a good time with my friends.

Also, I have a Yahoo Group for organizing the events, and I asked one of my Christian friends who doesn't play to join the group and keep an objective eye on me in case he notices anything I don't about myself.

Other than that, I don't go to casinos or anything like that. I'm more interested in the people around the table than the actual game.

haha man thats me. a year ago my group of christian guys and i started playing poker. we all only buy in with $5-$10 and we play for hours, sometimes from 9PM to 4AM. its very fun for us and is really brought us together. before poker we were all just a bunch of guys that new eachother and now we are all close. we play maybe once a week at my apt and it is really the only activity that all 10 of us enjoy. my closest friend i have ever had developed from spending time with him playing poker. once ppl drop out at night and there is only 2 or 3 left the topic almost always turns to God.

i do however have this new friend that is a christian that plays a couple games a week, buying in for at least a $100. he is very very good and walks away with $300 almost every night. he plays at this guys house that makes 40K just off the rake a year. he plays with all shady ppl, they are almost all drug dealers that do not care about losing a couple bills to him every night. he has become convicted of this and is trying to stop, but every time i ask him if he has stopped he gets this guilty/embarassed look and says that he played last night. he feels bad taking so much money from his friends even if it doesnt hurt them financially.

I think the occasional gambling is alright. I mean I was on my way back from Ohio on Greyhound and we stopped in a gambling city in Nevada and I wasted about 2 bucks or something on slots LOL. But taht was about it. I'm against spending LOTS of money on it. I think spending like 100 dollars on gambling is ridiculous but of course right now I am umeployed so I guess I am biased LOL.

Well I`ve a very diffrent perspective on the whole matter, in that while I`m at university, I`ve been working as a Bookmaker part-time. During the long summer break, I work nearly full time. It`s a very profitable ocupation, but is it a sin ? My reasoning is just so long as I`m honest, then there`s not a problem.

Good for you mike! There are some people who can do it and others who cannot, while I gamble only about twice a year, I know that if I lived closer to the casino, there is a good chance I would become addicted. My family is full of addicts, alcoholics, ciggarette smokers, all kinda of addicts, so I realize that I can't do it too much or I will get hooked. I keep in mind the same thing about drinking since I will be turning 21 in a month.
