  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Those who God has truly saved by giving them a new soul (spiritual) should help the unsaved by bringing the gospel to them. But we have to be careful to not let them cause us to doubt what God is telling us in scripture. False prophets will try to lead us astray (Matt 24:24).

We have to always give the glory to God and not appear that we know everything. We are nothing compared to God. If we think we have accomplished something because of our efforts then we are deceiving ourselves (John 3:27, Is 64:6) . This is why if we think we are saved and doing good works we need to always test our understanding against everything in the bible (I Thess 3:11,12). We need to make sure we are not following a false gospel which will not lead to salvation (Gal1:8,9), no matter how good or righteous it may appear. This is especially true today (2 Tim 4:3).

I'll give a quick, off-the-cuff analysis. :)

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness.

When you see someone else sinning, it's best to try to gently correct them because....

Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.

...because otherwise you'll turn into the puffed up Pharisee who thanked God that he wasn't like the sinners. This is false pride, and unless we guard against it, we end up sinning ourselves, and making it worse for the first sinner.

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Christ carried the Cross for our sins. We, too, must take care of our neighbor in his trials, we must pray for them, and carry our crosses for the sake of the Kingdom.

For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

Thinking one is something only in relation to his sinning neighbor is of no merit. Our neighbor sinning does not make us good.

But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.

God said we would be judged according to our own deeds. We are responsible for our actions. Someone else's sin does not make us better.
