  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

my son whne he eats sometimes chokes really hard. The nipple is fine and not coming out fast, but he still chokes and it sounds like he is dying. 3 times last night he did that.

could it be b/c i gave him a binki and he gets confused between the two nipples. i have to stop giving him the binki.....

Do you breastfeed? I have only known of nipple confusion in breastfed babies. What I would do is unlatch him from the bottle every couple of minutes. If you nurse, then do the same for that. Also, set his feedings closer together. It seems like he is trying to get alot very quickly.

Andie used to do that all the time....it just took some time (I guess) for her to get the "hang" of eating (we bottlefed). I just made sure each time that it wasn't coming out too fast, holding her more upright seemed to help as well. And taking more breaks during feeding...eat for a minute or so, take the bottle out...then go for it again. At around 2 months she really started to do better at it!

I know it's scary, I'd have a heart attack each time it happened! But hang in there, it'll get better.

Very normal.

Not likely.... although as a side note I wouldn't let him sleep with a pacifier because then you are setting yourself up for having to get out of bed and put it back in his mouth every time he wakes up and realizes it isn't there.... for the next 6 months...

6 mo Or more, and some kids do have a nipple confusion froma pacifier to a bottle, some breastfed kids don't, it is all a matter of individual kids.

The choking could just be he wasn't prepared for it, or not paying attention, some toddlers choke on water some drink and eat with no troubles. All kids are different :).

If you are really concerned get your doctor to do a once over. That way if there is a problem they will catch it, and if not it will calm your anxiety.

Never be concerned about asking a doctor/midwife/early childhood nurse too many questions with a newborn - it's your baby, and you know him best. You know what's normal and what's not. You are the expert on your baby. So if something is really worrying you, ask. That's what my early childhood nurse told me to do anyway!
