  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Funny scripture, deep principal.

Was just doing some bible study today and came accross this passage, my pastor teacher has been teaching this and while dwelling on it, it kinda made me laugh.

Mar 8:14 And they forgot to take bread; and they had not in the boat with them more than one loaf.

Jesus was giving orders to them, saying, watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod, he was trying to teach them to beware of legalism, lies and deception and false teaching.

Mar 8:15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.

and the only thing they got from what he was saying was leaven which reminded them that they only had one loaf of bread.

Mar 8:16 And they reasoned one with another, saying, We have no bread.

Jesus tells them that they are too naturally minded and still dont trust in the ways of God, they could not perceive the spiritual message cus they had their minds set on food.

Mar 8:17 And Jesus perceiving it saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? do ye not yet perceive, neither understand? have ye your heart hardened?
Mar 8:18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

And Jesus reminds them of the miricles he has already performed, and they still could not see what he was getting at, they just replied with the number.

Mar 8:19 When I brake the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

And again they still did not understand.

Mar 8:20 And when the seven among the four thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces took ye up? And they say unto him, Seven.

Mar 8:21 And he said unto them, Do ye not yet understand?

Jesus was telling them that his Father and our Father God the Father will provide us with everything we need if we trust in him, he's trying to tell them not to worry for the things of the world but set your focus on the things of God, and those things will be taken care of.

I think this is a good question to ask ourselves, how much do we trust in the plan of God, do we trust that he will always come through for us or are we too focused on what we can do on our own.

Just thought I would share, let me know your thoughts.

I can just see the disciples in that boat scratching their heads over what to do, "We have no bread!". Indeed, I chuckle at the thought: here is the Messiah in the boat, and their worried about bread! lol. Of all things. Jesus even provides many examples to them, and still their hearts are not attuned to what He is trying to get across; they're so focused on food!

Sounds like me.

Oh, how many times has this happened to me. To be so focused upon my circumstances and situation that it blinds me from the very things God wants to teach me. In fact, He is within me, as close as He can get, and still, I have trouble seeing the light. Yes, I can see myself in that boat... the disciples acted just as I would.

I pray Lord that I would see clearly your hand which provides my every need. May my heart be softened to your touch, and may I put my full trust in you. I beleive you will supply my every need, and I will take a step of faith in believing it is done. Thank you Father. Amen.

Yeah it kinda puts things into perspective a little, and is kinda comforting that it shows their shortcommings and some of the mistakes they make, and he was still able to use them, a great example that God's power is effective in all men, when we listen and apply what we beleive.

He's been working in me alot this year to learn this very lesson!! Trust and focus - keep my eyes on Him and all else will fall into place. It sounds like I know the lesson doesn't it? Sometimes, yes, sometimes no. I'm more like the disciples, sitting right beside the Lord and wondering how I'm going to handle this situation. Thank God He loves us through our imperfections.

It's an important lesson, and one that is so so hard to learn.

There are occasions when I have managed to completely rely on Jesus, and I know the tremendous peace which comes from that. And yet, I still struggle to place that trust in him, even though he asks us to do it for our own good. The result is anxiety and depression for me. I so much want to trust in God, and the image of being in a boat really speaks to me.

Praise God that you posted about this. I'm sure it will be meaningful to lots of people.
