  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I have a long way to go to obtain my undergrad degree but I'm setting my sights on an eventual M.Div from Fuller. I'm set on that, I'd hope to be able to go to the Northern California campus in Sacramento.

One thing I'm curious about: someone recently insinuated that Fuller supports a lot of the more bizarre movements in Christianity (like the Charismatic movement and it's subsets). Now, I know Fuller is multi-denominational and I'm likely to find a wide assortment of different traditions in my time there, but I never thought of it as a place where the Charismatic movement was really prevalent. I know Rob Bell isn't charismatic and Dr. Mouw isn't either, and they're both a couple of people whom I look up to greatly. So I'm curious if anybody knows more about the general attitude at Fuller in terms of Charismatic stuff?

Those that aren't fans of Fuller are that way not because of charismatics. Fuller's problem is it's doctrinal stance on things like biblical innerrancy, the historicity of the miracles of Jesus, the virgin birth, and the literal second coming of Christ. While on a purely scholarly level, Fuller is a good school. For someone going into a pastorate/church leadership role (which the M.Div. choice seems to indicate), I wouldn't recommend it because of their stances on essential elements of the Christian faith.
As far as Charismatic doctrine, though, I don't think they're known for that.
