• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was diagnosed bipolar four years ago..
I was told by a "christian counselor" a year ago to get off my medicine.. I am having so much trouble, am irritabe daily and now am starting to feel paranoid....
I live with my parents and two brothers and none of them are bipolar.
I was dropped by my state health insurance last year and am in need of medicine.
I do not know what to do. I feel helpless and afraid to reach out because noone seems to understand.
Will someone please pray for me?

I'll be praying for you!

I don't know why anyone, expecially a counciler, would tell you to discontinue the use of something that has the potential to help you. How very irritating....
It sounds like your family, and this counciler, might be having trouble grasping just how much of a real deal Bipolar is. It's a debilitating disorder, a real problem that is not going to go away by ignoring it or passing it off.
Your number one priority should be to be well, to be 'level'. That means seeing a Pdoc, getting on the right medication, and going to therapy sessions.
You say that you don't have insurance, which does make your situation tough, but a few doctor bills are a small cost when you consider the alternative. Maybe your parents could help pay for these visits, and if not, you could try family services or some other orginizations.
In any case, you should definately check in to getting on disability. That way, you wouldn't have to worry about keeping a job or staying within the restrains of some insurance company. The process is a bit long winded, but it's really worth it. You can't beat $3 perscriptions.

Remember, if you ever need support, there's plenty of folks here that are more than willing to give it. Stay in touch, eh?

I have noted that, in my own current experience, that Christian counsellors try to get you off meds or try to make you stop them abruptly. The one I've started seeing has all these ideas about psychiatrists keeping you in bondage and not wanting you to live without meds etc. That's never been my experience though; my pdoc wants me to reach a stage where I can function without meds and I never feel like I'm bound. I think that it's sad that some of these counsellors do more harm than good because they ignore that bipolar is an illness, they treat it as a state of mind instead. Going off meds with any illness is unwise unless you sincerely have no need for them any more.

I see this christian counsellor because she has a diet plan designed specifically for bipolars so I intend to combine that with my pharmacotheraphy and psychotherapy. I think balance is what I need.

Good that you're going to a doctor and that the lines of communication are open between yourself and your family.

It is my heartfelt prayer that you recieve the treatment you need and that all costs will be met by God's provision.

Father be with Sleepingbeautytn at this time. Lord, provide for her every need; emotionally, physically and other wise. Holy Spirit lead her to the right doctor and let excellent treatment be afforded to her. Lord provide for this family financially and meet them at the point of each of their needs. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Update us further.

  Dearest SB,  ,

Thankful you didn't go thru with the thoughts in your head.

I'm a little concerened with you using benadryl to help maintain your sleep.

Those 'end of time' thoughts...do you mean, 'end of your time'? If you mean when Jesus will come back to take us out of this world, then yes many times! Actually, thru out my life Revelations was (and is) one of my favorite Books in the Bible. I have read all the "Left Behind Series" books. (am now on the last one)

What are your thoughts of 'end of time'?

 s & :prayer: s,
Wendy

Praying. Glad you reached out for help when you needed it and didn't go through with those thoughts in your head. When you say end of time thoughts I know exactly what you mean! It is part of the the illness and it is something you have to fight. It is all lies, do not believe them!

I know what you are going through right now. Dr's told me the samething, that I wasn't bp and didn't need medication. I too had a brief psychotic episode before they finally realized I was bp....If your Dr doesn't want to listen to your input then do what I did....find one who listens to your input and lets you take part in your maintaining stability....God Bless You...Rush
