  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Frustrated!

I have no quiet at home for study! I have to have a study area that is absolutely quiet! This has been driving me crazy for years! Am I going to have to spend every waking minute up at the college?! It looks like it! I can't get any reading done at home! But the really sad thing is, that even at school, I can't seem to find a quite place to read! There's the library, but that place is buzzing. I can't stand all the people buzzing around and making noise. It drives me crazy! I can't concentrate! Can anyone sympathize?! What did you do?! I'm at the end of my rope. If I don't get some decent reading and studying done, I'm not going to have a good graduate GPA!
I MUST HAVE ABSOLUTE SILENCE!

do you have a basement at your house, or what about a local library. A lot of local libraries have study rooms where you can be in a private room with no noise. Where do you go to college?

We are lucky, our University has a HUGE library so it is mainly quiet in most areas... but they have a million study rooms too.

We don't have a basement. I'm not sure about the local library, but it's really small. My university has study rooms, but they're for study groups only. Having people walking around and mumbling distracts me. I'll find some way eventually. I have to. :sigh:

Our library has five floors. The higher you go, the fewer people you encounter. I usually go to the third floor because all the people flock to the computer labs on the first and second floor and the third floor is nothing but books and study areas. Also, try reference rooms (rooms were reference rooms are stored and checked out), as they are generally pretty quiet.

I'll pray that you find something. I know how hard it is to study. I do the headphones thing. That usually works pretty well until I find a song I really really like and start imagining myself playing it or something (I'm a music chik). Then I get distracted for a little while, but according to my psych(o) class, that can be a good thing after 20 minutes of diligent studying. So I don't mind too much. Am I rambling again? I hate it when I do that...Sorry. I'm done now.

 hello there :)

the ambiance in libraries i think is profitable, the space, the silence...

classical music also helps me

PELTOR shotgunner ear protection( i normally use them for drumming) :) --> but when you´re stressed or feeling uneasy(when it comes from within...) this will not fight the root problem, just dampen the noise...

the best thing still is to pray for peace and attention, and to think through all options and then go for the best one...

greetings

Markus

I grew up in the sticks. It was easy to achieve silence, especially since, back then, oversized automotive stereos had not become popular.

Nowadays I have learned the beauty of headphones.
There are headphones that serve to reduce environmental noise by either the old fashioned way, blocking the sound, or electronically as well. I've not had a chance to see which of these are the best, but they're out there.

So long as I have my own noise, I don't mind anyone else's.
