  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It just occurred to me that, although the forbidden fruit in Eden is commonly considered to be an apple, the Bible describes it only as "fruit." At least, in all of the translations I've checked, the word "apple" never appears.

So, I'm curious, how did apples come to be associated with the tree of knowledge of good and evil?

I'm not quite sure, I'm sure it was just the fruit someone picked to describe the event and it became the default fruit to resemble the forbidden fruit. It could have been any fruit really, it doesn't matter. And there are no fruits forbidden anymore, so don't be afraid to bite into a nice juicy apple! ;D

Why is the apple a symbol of education or schooling?

Yeah, I imagine if the Bible actually said "apple," there'd be a lot of people avoiding apples on religious grounds...

No. If that were the case, then apple would be the only thing I ate.

See the "fruit" has two opposite faces: 1. It is something Adam and Eve should not eat. 2. It is a really really good fruit (read its name?).

Forbidden fruit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Potential forbidden fruits of the Garden of Eden include the apple, pomegranate,[2] the fig,[3] the carob,[2] the etrog or citron,[2] the pear, and, more recently, the datura.[4]
In Western Europe, the fruit was often depicted as an apple, possibly because of a misunderstanding of, or a pun on mălum, a native Latin noun which means evil (from the adjective malus), and mālum, another Latin noun, borrowed from Greek μῆλον, which means apple
