And when the justices were confirmed, the right to access abortions was established legal precedent and they wouldn't infringe on that, or so they said.

My feeling is that if it's not on the table to be banned (which it is, but anyway), codifying it's availability and accessibility shouldn't be an issue.

Roe v Wade was supposedly set in stone too. I don’t trust GOP motives to vote against this bill.

In his concurring opinion [in the case striking down Roe] Thomas — an appointee of President George H.W. Bush — wrote that the justices “should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell” — referring to three cases having to do with Americans’ fundamental privacy, due process and equal protection rights.

Griswold was the case that protected access to contraception based on "the right to privacy". The same right that no longer exists in the case of Roe and abortion.
