On the 'Contacts & Friends' page on my UserCP I have 3 contacts and 2 friends. However when I look at my profile page (what people see when they click on my username) it only says - 'Showing 1 of 1 friends'.
The curious thing is that some days it shows one, and some days it show the other but never both at once. However on the UserCP page and the 'Friends Browser' page they both show up as friends.
