  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

On another computer, I'm upgrading Linux from "Wily Werewolf" to "Xenial Xerus" ("Friendly African Ground Squirrel"). It should take a few hours, and then we can discuss it on this thread.

PS. I'm not the one who invents these names, okay?

I came to this thread because of the name.

You have to admit that it's a great name.

It took about two hours to install and I am having no problems. All my downloads survived the trip.

It runs faster, although I can't figure out why.

Ubuntu has older versions that are accessible (if you hold SHIFT while it's booting it will display GRUB so you can pick which one). But it's very rare that an Ubuntu update will break drivers. They use open source drivers that have been well tested.

Pretty much if you have an issue on Ubuntu, it's best to ask here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/

You generally get treated well with a fast and satisfactory answer.

thank you, Wookiee. I have just posted my question there. Since everything is running fine, I see no need to upgrade the drivers.

I'm on Linux now, and I have noticed that it runs faster and more smoothly than Windows 10 on the same machine.
:) :) :)

If you get bored, try Xubuntu or Lubuntu. You'd be surprised how fast a computer can run.

Most Linux distros do not have such goofy names. (See my avatar.)

:)

Well, it's just the code name for the build more than anything; Ubuntu's used alphabetical code names forever. I mean no one would have used Windows Longhorn (although that became Vista, so I guess that's a moot point).

Debian uses Toy Story names, for what it's worth.

Free manuals FTW! Just wait until you start playing with the CLI! :) Well, if that's your thing, anyway. The nice thing about distros like Ubuntu is that the typical user never has to open a terminal if they don't want to.

I don't understand your post.
