  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Good friend of mine is stressed out big time. He is working a lot of hours and is going to school (freshman in college). His grades are dropping, he is falling behind, and stressed at work. He is trying to cover up his stress by parties and hanging out with bad influences. He does not come from a Christian family, but does go to church with me about 50% of the time. He is a good guy, just stressed out.

Besides the Bible, are there any books he could read? Not historical books, but books that deal with real life experiences of today. Something that would be easy to understand as he has a very short attention span.

Thanks

It sounds to me like he'd benefit from counseling services over reading self-help books. Universities have student health services, which include mental health- and since students are required to have insurance- getting actual counseling is a realistic option.

Perhaps he could try reading a devotional book or too. These books generally offer a Bible verse a day with short related commentary, and other noted verses to look at. These commentaries usually deal with common issues that people today face. "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young is an example - I read this and I really find it helpful!

Time Management is a HUGE factor in college related stress.

I suggest he read up on Time Management.

Time management is like love, everyone thinks they are an expert. But the reality is that most of us suck at it :(

Having a schedule, outlining all the things you need to do, allocating time to do them, etc is a MUST in college.

Trust me, once he has a handle on all the things he is working on, once he has a schedule and plan of attack, 50% (if not more) of his stress will melt away...
