  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Are they french knots as in cross-stitch? if so, I pull the thread through the work, tie and granny knot and ease the knot down the thread using the needle and once it is at the bottom, hold the knot with my fingernail as I tighten it by pulling on the thread, then pass the needle back down through your work.

Don't know if this helps, but just keep on practicing and you will get it, PM me if you like.

welshdaff, not sure what to tell you to help. If you lived closer, I'd have you come over and I'd show you or do them for you. My sister despises french knots, she lets me do them for her. I used to be (in the early/mid 80's) into "candlewicking". It's all and only french knots.

The only thing I can say is that I always wind the needle around the thread as close to the fabic as I can then put the needle back down into the fabric drawing slowly and with the other hand taking care the top thread does not twist more as it goes down to make the knot.

This way sounds much better! It is the same way you do bullion stitch, and I had fun with that a few years ago - been meaning to drag it out again but I am sidetracked with my crochet and beeding and knitting and painting and cleaning and the cats and reading and my husband and my family and and and ...... lol.
