Freezing puter, websites not responding, any help?

Hey all, I need help here, if I can even get back here to get it. My computer is freezing up (and its only a year old). I get a black (then) a blue screen (when restarting it) when I encounter problems online then a quick peek that its dumping memory (am I in trouble?).

Pages arent responding, links for the most part need to be clicked on two or three times, or a page (even from here) doesnt download (at all) and I must click back and then retry it just as many times. Everything is just haywire (very annoying). Then three times a day it shuts down and retries to come up (and does this several times) with no luck. Then all the sudden it does (somehow) and for 15 minutes or so works perfect (its fast) and operates without a glich. But then it slowly returns to unresponsive websites, or pages (and links). Shows windows having a problem, or an unexpected shut down, or not shut down properly (or whatever it tells me). And Im no puter genius, but I just dont know where the problem is or what to do about it. And searching endlessly online is fustrating because I cant stay on that long before the problem reoccurs again.

I might need to hire someone, but Im sorta weird about taking my puter into somewheres because I have trust issues (I dont know what they do in there lol) and I thought about just buying a new one, but I dont want to rebuy a newer computer because this one is only a year old.

Any advice? This stuff is totally intimidating and pretty much beyond me.

I got to start backing up serval hours worth of music today (before its too late lol) I didnt do that yet because my first computer never gave me a problem in all of ten years I had it.

I hate this one (fed up)

If this is needed have windows 7 home premium, Inspirion 620, 8.00 GB Ram, and 64 bit operating system, and I used explorer 8.

I dont know what to do here (lost) and its driving me insane, any help?

If I am not back here its because I cannot respond, its getting more difficult to.

Any help pointing me in the right direction is appreciated

Download and install an antivirus and firewall.
If you already have an AV,update it and run it(do a complete scan)and set the program to run automatically.
It may be a good idea to get and run an anti malware program too,if one isn't included in the AV.
If all else fails,do a reformat and install the above programs,and keep them updated.

Thanks Freezerman I will give that a try, I hate tinkering with these things I always get lost when it asks me to click anything, Im always like "what if I click the wrong thing"? lol

I do have google chrome saved to my favorites, I just wasnt sure explorer was the problem or what exactly was the problem and didnt want to tangle up the problem further with downloading more stuff (if you know what I mean?)

I thought it sorta ran itself... see? Thats how dense I am.

I'll give it a try when I come home from the grocery store though.

The ads on this forum and elsewhere seem to effect it too it seems, the puter experience is changing for me here (lol) drives me bonkers.

I'll let you know how its working out once I give it a go, the puter is acting perfect at the moment (that soon changes though) lol

Okay I downloaded Chrome before going to the store, in fact I havent left yet. Said to create an account (which I tried) but it told me we cannot create an account for you" (lol) Im like huh? So I skipped that because I could but it too wasnt taking me anywhere. Both are affected by whatever is going on here, and just getting my puter up and running (without either) is just yeilding black screens and blue screens. Tried starting it in safe mode and still a problem. Im just not getting it. I had no problems AT ALL with windows xp, I dont know why this dumb windows 7 is such a big deal (I hate it)

Ready to blow my top (and trying to contain myself) lol

Is there like some reputable online computer geek place online?

Whats the best course of action? Something must be cheaper then buying a new puter because Im honestly thinking of tossing this one out the window, and the only thing stopping me right now is my music and the tens of thousands screwed up documents (windows 7 screwed up into some kind of scrambled eggs).


Well, that, and the fact I couldnt pick the dumb thing up myself.

Who is the best puter fixers? I have a Dell but I didnt purchase the help for it because I cant "understand" the help, they use foreigners with heavy accents (which isnt helpful to me). So I said, "why bother"? Its not like they can actually help me if I bought it anyways. So (to me) I thought, "smart move".

Im no better now, then had I bought it, but I dont know who to turn to, any ideas bro?

You've backed up your drive to what? If it is an external,go ahead and reformat.
You can create your own recovery disks before you do that.It will put your machine back into the same condition it was when you took it out of the box.
Another thought,have you updated from the Microsoft Update site? If not,you will probably get a "malicious code removal update"..Try that.
About the Chrome,I did not create an account,and it hasn't affected the performance of my browsing experience.

Okay I paid Dell to fix it, costed e over $300, missed grocery shopping and making dinner but I have a puter again.

"Somehow" I had all this malware stuff on it when the only sites I go to is here and allrecipes and my own forum I have had for years. Mine is the only one without advertisments on it though.

So I bought this system mechanics thing which is supposed to combat the bs stuff (that ticks me off that I must do that over advertising) because I dont go nowheres bad, or even open bad emails or click on stuff I shouldnt.

Im just fuming over it. When you buy the protection you never use it (or cant understand them) then when you dont, you need it (then) and actually get a person you can understand (for once)

Im just in a bad mood right now

So far so good though bro, I "think" my problem's resolved here, if not I have paid them for a year and so it wont be costing me no more (soon) lol

Thanks for your help here, I knew I just needed someone to take over the puter and scrap stuff for me because I sure dont know what I am doing.

get an anti malware program..there are tons of free ones out there-just Google for them and pick the one that you feel like will meet your needs.
Get one that has passive protection.
The great thing about those is,if you don't like what you get,it is easy to trash it and try another one-
My son is running Malware Bytes on his machine..I prefer Spybot-Search and Destroy.
You will still have to keep it updated.

Im too attached to this puter, it had my grocery list on it too yesterday and I was like "dang, how can I go food shopping without it?"

Well, thats the first and last time I ever put my grocery list on my puter, paper is so under rated thats for sure

Go ahead and get 3 blank dvd's and make a set of restore disks..and back up your files and settings to one too..that way, if you ever get into the same problem,you wont have to spend 300 again..
the program you want is in your computer's control panel.

I didnt even know how to back up, like I know how to put my music to CD but I dont know how to put the other to CD (or even what type of CD to use to do that). I did buy an external hard drive and he actually saved my docs and my music to that for me (for which I am for ever grateful)

Didnt want to lose my tunes (especially). My docs are a mess from being transferred from XP to Windows 7 the font is fine to look at from my own puter, but if I copy paste from Word into a reply box (in CF) it comes up with all this code.

Now my sister told me I should go to some site and upload them there and click how to display them, but then she lost me.

Im like, "too complicated" lol If its not simple I wont do it, she loses me in the lingo and the how to procedure so I will count them as a loss. I can always just use them to take verses off of (in the order they are in there and rewrite them) no biggy.

But my tunes? I love my tunes

I wonder if there is such a thing as lust of the ears? lol

Backing up the O/S onto DVD's is easy to do. Go to HELP and type in "creating a recovery disk".It will walk you through the process.
I burned a copy of my disks just in case something happened to the originals.

That way, she can really understand what she's doing.

That was already done (the external HD bit).Her machine is running fine now.
I'm trying to walk her through creating a set of recovery disks.

The system mechanics tools are pretty impressive for what they do, but the bottom line is that you are much better off learning a few basics about system maintenance and doing it manually. Windows 7 will even schedule a disk defrag for you - I believe it does that by default. Add an occasional error check a couple of times a year, routine cleaning of junk files (CCleaner is free, but must be tamed a bit from the default settings). Another biggie is to parse the autoruns - progs that start automatically. CCleaner is great for that too. This stuff is not hard to do, with just a bit of study.

May I ask what word processor you use? And here on CF, if you go to your Options/editing options, do you have the WYSIWYG editor selected?

I would also suggest that you convert your old .doc files to the newer .docx format, even if you do it on an as-opened basis. The newer format is more stable and has smaller file sizes.

Here there are a few things to consider. The backup disks are always a good idea, because if your hard drive goes south you will need an external source of restoration. But short of that you may have a restoration partition on the hard drive that will install not only the OS, but the extras the manufacturer gave you (and the bloatware as well).

The ultimate backup is a full system image. You can download EaseUS Todo and back up your whole system to that external drive. You can lock the initial backup, and then have it do differentials from then on. That way you'll have both the latest snapshot and the original. Again, with a little initial study it's not hard, and once it's done you're protected.

The only other data loss issue is fire and theft. That's where backing up to the cloud comes in.
