  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Firstly, the Criollo Hispanic culture that remained in areas in the Southwest was very different from the culture that is coming from the most recent immigrants to these areas. The Criollo Hispanic people, whose ancestors have been in these lands for hundreds of years, have a far more European influenced culture and their traditions reflect that. Also historically, they have been far less likely to embrace radical ideas such as equality and democracy.

In both cases, whether those Mexicans who remained after the admission of these states or in the past, their culture stems from Spain, a country what was steeped in pre-enlightenment Catholicism when New Spain was founded and Mexico gained its independence. The period of time when Mexico had outlawed religion (which produced many martyrs for the Church, such as Bl. Miguel Pro) notwithstanding, Mexico has always been a fervently Catholic nation.

I was also state that the overall influence they had on the region was very minimal compared to the Anglo-Celtic people and culture.

Well not necessarily white culture, but civilized culture that comes from Europe and specifically the British Isles. Many Canadians have this shared heritage and the similarities between the traditional population of America and the traditional population of Canadians reflect this.

Which are post-enlightment protestant cultures.

These religious factors are very important when seeing the big picture. Personally, when I started moving towards the Catholic Church, my entire outlook on people started to change and I saw things in a different way. It was that paradigm shift that comes into play when the very basis of your thinking (which religion has a major part) changes from one to the other.

Also, I would be concerned if ANY large ethnic group were to replace the traditional American population. Some of my ancestors were part of the waves of immigrants I felt were hurtful for the overall national character.

In what way did it hurt?

Also, culture is far more than just technology.

Yes, I know, that's why I said partly because of the technology.

And like you, I am in love with experiencing other cultures, languages, traditions, and ways of life. I am especially a lover of food from other cultures. :D I am however against any population of people in the modern world being displaced.

Well, as Catholics, latinos are more likely to have large families. Perhaps that could be a clue...start having babies.

Do you have a citation for the bold?

I found something in Canada's rules that may well be similar to what he twisted:

Safe Third Country Agreement

Canada has an agreement with the United States where people who want to make a refugee claim must do so in the first safe country they arrive in. This means that if you enter Canada at a land border from the United States, you cannot make a refugee claim in Canada. In some cases this rule does not apply (for example, if you have family in Canada).

Note this is significantly different on several points. First safe country you arrive in is different in 2 ways from closest stable country.

In fact thinking about other things I found when looking up refuge status indicates just general instability is NOT grounds for refuge status, it is persecution based on very specific classes.

Every single illegal immigrant is a criminal.
The Obama administration has moved on it's own, bypassing Congress, and solved the crisis. ICE personnel have been ordered to cease referring to the children coming here illegally as unaccompanied alien children. They are to be referred to as unaccompanied children and only in lower case letters in written correspondence. Problem solved. I'm feeling better already

Every single illegal immigrant is a criminal.

Cannery Row in Monterey in California is a poem, a stink, a grating noise, a quality of light, a tone, a habit, a nostalgia, a dream. Cannery Row is the gathered and scattered, tin and iron and rust and splintered wood, chipped pavement and weedy lots and junk heaps, sardine canneries of corrugated iron, honky tonics, restaurants and harlot houses, and little crowded groceries, and laboratories and flophouses. Its inhabitants are, as the man once said, "<redacted>, pimps, gambles, and sons of <redacted>," by which he meant Everybody. Had the man looked through another peephole he might have said, "Saints and angels and martyrs and holy men," and he would have meant the same thing.

False dilemma, but charmingly phrased.

Not at all.
If he wants to use the dictates of the Torah to his advantage in this one argument, he can't just weasel out and say "Oh, but the rest doesn't matter".
As my famous compatriot Søren Kierkegaard said (though in a vastly different context): Enten-eller ("either-or"). Either he wants to implement the entirety of the Torah, or he's a hypocrite.

The Obama administration has moved on it's own, bypassing Congress, and solved the crisis.

What.....can Obama just rule by decree like some Middle Eastern dictator?

Your Rapala is not appealing to this old fish.

So that's a yes, then. You ARE a hypocrite who picks and chooses at random according to what's convenient for your own argument.
