This actually happened in my city, so I get lots of commentary about this from all sides just by reading Facebook posts. I have little doubt that there are plenty of closet racists among the protesters, though the majority don't explicitly see it as a "keep out the brown people" thing.

I also get the impression that there is a lot of misunderstanding among these people about what's going on and who was on the buses; they don't seem to understand that they were going to be temporarily held and processed at the Murrieta Border Patrol station we have there. A lot of people seemed to think that they were going to be released in Murrieta to do whatever they wanted.

Just one big mess, really.

They don't. To be legitimate refugee you must, per international law, flee to the nearest stable country. Not the one where you think you stand to economically benefit the most. The United States is not the nearest stable country for any of these people. They are economic immigrants.

I actually lived in that town, now in the next one over. Though they are smushed together such that you could consider them all one place. I doubt they are racists. Just good people justifiably angry at the mess that is illegal immigration and taking it out on the closest thing that resembles it. I don't blame them, or the kids really. Just the failures in the system that have led to this.

Just like the Native Americans did not cheer when they were replaced, the traditional population of America should not be expected to cheer and be happy that in large parts of this country, their culture, traditions, and heritage are being usurped by one that is alien.

Personally I would not care if the illegal immigrants were Canadian and I would encourage some form of amnesty because they, like America, have much of the same culture and national character. This isn't about receiving a piece of paper like it is for some "conservatives." Whether legal or illegal, I am against our broken immigration system.

Agreed, I really doubt the townfolk are angry at the children, I believe they are furious with our Federal Government.

What really infuriates a lot of people on the right is that we sincerely believe this situation is deliberate on the part of the Obama Administration, and there is circumstancial evidence to back up that belief.

Okay, let's look at an example. Mexicans are not "alien" to California, Texas, New Mexico or even Arizona. The've been here since before these states were admitted to the Union and have maintained a lot of their unique traditions. This makes the culture of these states different than those of the South or the Midwest or any other part of the country.

Personally, I'd feel downright uncomfortable in the South for a LOT of reasons.

Personally I would not care if the illegal immigrants were Canadian and I would encourage some form of amnesty because they, like America, have much of the same culture and national character. This isn't about receiving a piece of paper like it is for some "conservatives." Whether legal or illegal, I am against our broken immigration system.

So, it's about "white culture."

Here's the interesting thing about the United States. Our culture is extremely flexible. The Founders wouldn't recognize very much of it, partly because of technology but also partly because people have been coming here since the colonial days and bringing the spice of their culture. Personally, I love it. It makes life interesting.

Now, as to the immigration issue, I believe a lot of reform is indeed needed. I likely disagree with you as to what those reforms entail. If you want to know what I think on the issue, as a Catholic, I defer to our Bishops.

This thread is about Central Americans, not Mexicans.

Here's the interesting thing about the United States. Our culture is extremely flexible. The Founders wouldn't recognize very much of it, partly because of technology but also partly because people have been coming here since the colonial days and bringing the spice of their culture. Personally, I love it. It makes life interesting.

Depends on where they're coming from. Common sense says you can't expect the US to remain a First World country indefinitely if you keep importing the Third World. Of course, if the US turning into another Brazil is what you want, then I really have nothing more to say, but I do excpect you to take that position openly.

Firstly, the Criollo Hispanic culture that remained in areas in the Southwest was very different from the culture that is coming from the most recent immigrants to these areas. The Criollo Hispanic people, whose ancestors have been in these lands for hundreds of years, have a far more European influenced culture and their traditions reflect that. Also historically, they have been far less likely to embrace radical ideas such as equality and democracy.

I was also state that the overall influence they had on the region was very minimal compared to the Anglo-Celtic people and culture.

So, it's about "white culture."

Well not necessarily white culture, but civilized culture that comes from Europe and specifically the British Isles. Many Canadians have this shared heritage and the similarities between the traditional population of America and the traditional population of Canadians reflect this.

Also, I would be concerned if ANY large ethnic group were to replace the traditional American population. Some of my ancestors were part of the waves of immigrants I felt were hurtful for the overall national character. Also, culture is far more than just technology.

And like you, I am in love with experiencing other cultures, languages, traditions, and ways of life. I am especially a lover of food from other cultures. I am however against any population of people in the modern world being displaced.
