However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. Leviticus 25:44-45

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. Exodus 21:20-21

I am sure that you are intelligent enough to understand.....

Killing someone does not take away their right to life... It takes away their life.

Sure, they can kill you. However, that is a crime. A murderer doesn't take away the right that their victim has.. to life. They are a criminal because they have taken something that they have no right to take.

If you take away someones life, if you kidnap them and confine them by taking away their right to leave, or if you deprive someone of sleep, or money they earned, or land they purchased, or an activity that they enjoy.. you are in violation of that persons rights.

Police officers have to have just cause, under the laws of the land to kill, arrest and confine, or stop you from doing something that brings you happiness.

Without sufficient evidence of you breaking a law that justifies them in killing you, arresting you or stopping you from an activity.... they are, themselves breaking a law and can be diciplined with whatever the law associates as a just punishement.

I also believe that you are too intelligent to think that

Well Ted here is the proof that inalienable right are in fact straight from God. Feel free to read the entire paper for your edification.
"MADE IN GOD’S IMAGE
We are made in God's image and thus are spiritual beings, designed to live under God’s authority.
By nature of being made in God’s image, we possess inalienable rights. Inalienable rights are
defined as those rights that are inherent to our personhood. They cannot be taken away, nor can
they be given away. Inalienable rights are defined as life, liberty, and property. These things are
supported in Scripture by virtue of being made in God’s image and by various commandments from
the Old Testament (Genesis 1:26, 9:6, the Ten Commandments) as well as the most basic
commandment affirmed in both the Old and New Testaments to love God and love others"

Hi @disciple Clint

Well, I would agree that it is proof of one person's understanding of the issue. He keeps repeating that our 'being made in God's image' somehow connects to our having these rights. I don't see that connection. I understand that being made in God's image means that we are a triparte being, just as God is. I do agree that the closing statement of the most basic command being to love God and love others. Let's try that instead. Maybe that's what it means to be made in God's image, that we are creatures with the capacity to love as God does, but sadly we don't practice it.

God bless,
Ted

Well Ted this is not just the understanding of one man, as I told you before there is an entire theology called moral theology, you might want to spend some time looking into it.
