• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"When city employees take nutrition into their own hands". LOL. Durrr, when you make the choices for them it's in your hands not theirs Mayor Ballerina.

Bad enough city employees have to leave their guns at home, but now they have to sneak their Twinkies (the snack food, not the girlfriend) into the office.

Oh look, another slippery slope fallacy.

And for the record, I don't need government to ban anything for me. I'm a healthy weight. But I do see others that can't control themselves. I'm willing to give up some of my personal freedom if it means helping fellow citizens with their problems.

In sociology and psychology the slippery slope is not a fallacy. Once you inure people to one thing they may become more open to another.

Oh look, another slippery slope fallacy.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

I'm willing to give up some of my personal freedom if it means helping fellow citizens with their problems.

Then you will. Whether you really want to or not.

Perhaps, but everything the government does, including things that both liberals and conservatives agree are necessary, can be looked at in that light. "We can't let the government tax us at 5% because nothing will stop them from taxing us at 100%!" It's nonsense. We elect officials to make a reasonable, efficient balance between two extremes. Sometimes they go too far one way or the other, but thanks to our democracy, we can put someone else in charge when we're not happy with the decisions they're making.

Oh sure, because if you agree to turn over this amount of personal freedom to the government because it is in your own good, that government will never attempt to expand its control over you. Never......

aaaaa1984-movie-big-brother%5B1%5D.jpg

For the love of God, George Orwell was a radical Democratic Socialist and 1984 was a dystopian novel about an oppressive fascist regime.

They still a voice in Chicago?

Perhaps we should let the people who live there speak to that, rather than just assume they don't because "that's where Obama's from". My brother's best friend lives in Chicago and they still get to vote.

Oh, right, because if junk food is removed from government buildings those who work there will never ever......ever ever ever....eat a bag of chips again.

Unnecessary sarcasm aside, I do understand your point here. I'm not so naive as to believe if they take chips out of vending machines no government employee is ever going to eat chips again. But they don't plan on making it accessible on their watch. Same thing with schools implementing healthier lunch programs. It doesn't mean those kids aren't eating junk food at home, it just means they aren't doing it on the government's watch and on the taxpayers' dime.
