Free improvisation, who else digs it? By this I mean free jazz, European free improv (Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, et al), intuitive music, etc. Anyone?
I dig it when I used to Jam , I would get kinda told off for not playing what was down on tape , I just found it difficult to remember and be that disciplined....... I love playing Guitar by ear .

One of the great thinngs I love about Hendrix is he never ever does the same thing twice , there was always variation with him , I guess that is why his music still sells so well ......... He only made 3 studio albums , the rest is bits and pieces

I used to play with a free group in grad school; one of our favorite "pieces" was Stockhausen's IT:

Think Nothing
wait until it is absolutely still within you
when you have attained this
begin to play
as soon as you start to think, stop
and try to reattain
the state of Non-Thinking
then continue playing

[Just to clarify, I don't mean jazz or improv that's free in the monetary sense, I mean "free jazz" and "free improv" as in the styles... Sorry bout that!]

I don't have much in the way of mp3... Mostly just on CD and tape. Circle (Corea/Holland/Altschul/Braxton), Derek Bailey, Gunter Muller, Music Improvisation Company, John Zorn, etc. I've heard that Thomas Lehn is a pretty incredible improv synthesist, but I haven't had a chance to hear any of his stuff yet. (Soon, I hope!)

I've always enjoyed the adventure that listening to free improv grants me. It's not quite liberating in the same way that playing it is, but to hear musical interactions outside the standard context of shared song forms, chord progressions, meters/keys, etc. can be really exciting and challenging for my ear. The few times I've attended performances of free improv/"creative music" (as it's sometimes labeled) I've felt completely drained afterwards.
Here are a couple of my favorite sites for free improv:
