I didn't know where to post this...it's farming related haha. Farming can be a complicated science.

I'm not sure how many people eat organically here but I thought I would post a picture of a purely organic , free range chicken (left) vs a normal store bought turkey. (Right)
Can you see the differences?

I think it should be chicken of different type. I can find one with black skin, organic or not.

Not when one of them appears to have been brined

No, it hasn't been brined. The one that appears a more yellow colour is a free range, organic bird. It is fresh meat ready to be cooked. The other one is the typical store bought bird which we all see in the grocery stores.

Here is butter made with fresh organic milk...no additives or colours added.
The biggest difference I can think of is with mayonnaise. The stuff in the shops is usually white, but when you get homemade mayo it's yellow and less viscous. And also really tasty!

Eating grass and bugs makes a big difference in the color of the flesh...even the fat is deep yellow. Completely organic and free range birds do look like this. All of ours do.

Reminds me an old commercial we used to watch:

The free range chicken you have there looks pretty big and fat. Normally the natural ones I see are much leaner looking then the hormone monstrosities we eat from KFC.

I would have assumed the weird colour came from a diet very high in corn. I've heard that pretty much all farm animals in the US are corn fed and thus a little less healthy for humans.

Our chickens range in size and weight. We don't use hormones or steroids, antibiotics or corn. All our chickens are free range birds which eat fresh grass and bugs. We do not feed our chickens corn of any kind. We are an organic farm in Canada. I know very little about the US.
The average size chicken is about 6 or 7 pounds....some are bigger and some are smaller. The meat is very lean.

Yes , our farm has three very large gardens. (Not a big fan of weeding ugh)
We also have organically grown strawberries and raspberries.
Our farm is 100 acres and we also tap maple trees and boil sap for maple syrup. Yum :)

Forgive my ignorance, but do you guys believe in crop dusting?

That's it!

My wife and I are coming over for breakfast! ^_^

It was a picture taken by my mom to show a customer from the farmers market. It's unlikely you will see any chicken like that in the grocery store. We see it at the organic farmers markets and is a sign of very healthy birds.

See the pic of our cute chicks.

No we don't crop dust.
The only crops we grow is hay and we don't do anything but fertilize our fields will good old fashioned manure. Our gardens are also fertilized with manure and we hand pick bugs from plants (have you seen potato bugs? Gross)

Haha come on over :)

I was talking, more, about the picture of the chicken, on the left. I shop at farmers markets, and at grocery stores (the expensive organic ones, also) here, in the US, and in Sweden. I've never seen a raw chicken that looks that colour, on the left. Where did your mum buy the chicken to compare to hers? Was it freshly bought from the store? Did she do anything to that chicken?

I guess, that picture, it is an effective way for your mum to market her product.
