Are any of you familiar with Frank Schaeffer's books? I had never heard of him until I saw him interviewed by Tom Hartmann on youtube the other day.

As someone who grew up in fundamentalism, I grew quite accustom to his father's works. I'm glad that Frank has drifted away from the fundamentalist movement and has addressed the lunacy of the Christian right.

What books of his would you recommend that I start with?

I've heard about him I guess pretty much what you have, but haven't read any of his stuff yet.

I just read an excerpt from Sex, Mom and God, wonder why I picked that one, yowch, he is scathing; a good writer, the excerpt didn't get into his theology, but he's clearly no fundamentalist any more. It reasonated scarily with me, not because my mother hauled out her contraceptives to explain how God predestined Protestant women to space their children (mine didn't but his did), but because he understands the pervasive influence of childhood indoctrination. Quite scary.

Odd you guys mention him. Just saw a doc about his dad getting the ball rolling as far as Fundamentalism and Politics are concerned in this country. Really good view.

Will definitely check out some of his views. Thanks as always fam.

I read Crazy for God which is his autobiography. It was informative and entertaining. I also read Losing Patience with God. That book sort of describes his falling-out with fundamentalism (in more detail than the other) and is somewhat more philosophical. Some of his feelings expressed therein mirrored my own. As an atheist myself, I found his characterization of "new" atheism way off base. YMMV
