According to E P Hovey, there are 4 characteristics of sin.

1) self-sufficiency instead of faith
2) self-will instead of submission
3) self-seeking instead of benevolence
4) self-righteousness instead of humility

Which do you struggle with most?
I think number two for me. I still treat God like an equal instead of submitting to Him.

Probably #2 for me as well... that seems to be the paradigm that we are born into... hard to break. But sin in it's true form, from the Hebrew word we translate as sin, has more depth than just "missing the mark." The extra depth comes in the form of a person who actually is trying to hit the proper target (God's righteousness) and simply misses from time to time due to him not being perfected yet. Chata'ah in Hebrew, sin, is unintentional or an act of ignorance. When you get to other words like avon or pesha we enter the realm of turning away from the target for a time or... rebellion, knowing the target and not caring, deliberate sin if you will. A person can be guilty of trying to hit the mark and missing but never going to the next two levels (if you will) and in that (rare) case, none of the 4 fit that person.

So that's rebellion, witchcraft, and idolatry.

The remedy is found in Scripture too, as well as
Yhwh's Warning about sin and the penalty for sin.

Christ died to set us all free from sin, and from the power of satan. He says so. He says how.

Perfectly.

Number 2 isn't quite correct. King David in the the Psalms sang, must I be led like a horse by a bit? Jesus wants us led by the Spirit but not simply submitting, there is conforming and there is the promise that if we love God, we can ask of anything we want, and we will have it.

I am having trouble being led by the Spirit.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but the Bible has only Three categories of Sin: 1 John 2:16

1. The lust of the flesh (physical pleasure)
2. The lust of the eyes (desires)
3. The pride of life (achievements and possessions)

It looks like those 3 things would fit right into the ones Bettercall listed.

I am having trouble being led by the Spirit.

God showed me something wonderful last night about being "led". We always use that word to describe what we think He wants us to do, but this is not quite accurate. Being "led" is being pushed along or pulled along like a dog on a leash. Often times, God creates circumstances in our lives that kind of force us to go the right way. If we are truly being led then we have no need to worry or wonder if we are going the right way or not. When we walk in the spirit, He will send angels to protect us. He will lead us.
Being led can have the appearance of bad luck or failure, but He knows if a new job will be detrimental for us or a hopeful relationship fizzles. We keep asking for things and not getting them so we assume we are being punished for sin or something but we need to have confidence that He guides our steps and we have absolutely no reason to fear or fret.

Bless up!
