  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ive just recently started to study the foundational doctines of Christianity again.

While studying a lot what I already thought I had learned I am seeing things a completely different light and can see how important the foundational doctrines are for living a Christian life.

This passage particularly got me thinking;

Mat 7:24 Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock:
Mat 7:25 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and if fell not: for it was founded upon the rock.
Mat 7:26 And every one that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand:
Mat 7:27 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and smote upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall thereof.

I really like the way Jesus told this parable, as it seems to have a direct relation to the foundational doctrines, just like the foundations of the house, they need to be strong so when things come along to test the structure it can withstand these things and stand stong, just as we need to be firm in our doctrine and faith, when these things happen to test our faith and we dont have knowledge (solid foundations) we are sure to fall away, and when we fall we are sure to crash.

But thank God for rebound, for God can rebuild the house of our soul on foundations unbreakable, through his doctine in our soul.

In 1 Cor 3 Paul also uses the building terms.

9For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. 10According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it.
11For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

It is the Word studied, taken in, metabolized (Jer 15:16 Your words were found and I ate them,
And Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart;) that conform our soul to the image of Christ. It is his thinking that changes our thinking from the thinking of the world we come up with to the thinking of Christ. In 2 Pet 1, all of the results come from doctrine taken into the soul, and believed.

If a believer stays in fellowship with God, allowing the Holy Spirit to recall the thinking of Christ to his mind, studies consistently and applies what he learns he will grow up "grow up (become a mature beleiver) in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,"
