Its morning here in cape Town.

Good Evening to you all.
I cant help noticing the current dispute regarding the icon thing.
Please help me out here.
I am a baptised member of the Elsies River S.d.a. church in cape Town South Africa.
I have been there since the age of 12. pathfinders.Youth. Personal Ministries leader.Advent Youth leader.
Currently I am not attending due to doctrinal issues which they cannot answer.
I am currently worshipping with a non-denominational bible teaching group.
I love the Lord very much and believe I am saved by His grace.
Do I qualify to discuss or raise issues here, get an icon and if so how do I get one.

I did not start out with an SDA icon and all I did was to PM one of the Mods and they told what I had to do to get one.

It really is very simple once you know how to go about it.

The rules here is that a person cannot debate if you are not a member of the group that the Forum was set up for.

I cannot go into the RCC Forum and debate with them. I can ask question and then that is it.

It is the same here, non SDA's can ask but noit debate here.

This rule applies to all similar Forums at CF.

At least that is the way I understand it to be.

Hi Cliff and amen. I seems to me that if one has left the SDA church to fellowship with another denomination, then they are no longer Adventists and as such, cannot debate in here. Rules are rules.

Fellowshipping with another denomination does not mean he no longer considers himself Adventist. It seems that he does, and wishes to carry that icon. If he had a Baptist icon, for example, and was engaging in debate with members who did not wish him to, then I can see where debating rules would apply.

The rules regarding Congregational forums are 2.2 and 2.2b.
The issue regarding defining people to participate and debate within their own congregation are that they either must have the congregation's icon or they must have one of the congregation's churches in their profile under "Church". There are some instances (rare) where we will get a good faith PM from the person stating that they are X congregation and staff knows that person can post in that congregational forum and ONLY that congregational forum.

Mod Hat Off^

I hope this helps.

So Dave, are you telling me that I can debate in here if I have the SDA church membership noted in my profile, but don't have the SDA icon?

If you honestly attend an SDA church, then yes.

That's all you need. That obviously precludes you from posting anything other than fellowship and questions in all other congregational forums, since we can only participate in one congregational forum at a time.

Scripture Reading:
1 Corinthians 12:13-28

13For we were all baptized by[a] one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

14Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. 15If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 16And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 17If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" 22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.

Debating is good for the mind when it is done in the right spirit, Unfortunately, I have a bent towards sarcasim, particularly so with atheists and agnostics.

I need to work on that of course. Nevertheless, I've learned to see things more clearly by debating.

Great reminder,Jonathan.
Might this help to open the eyes of our hearts.
