Jesus asked God to forgive those who were crucifying him because they didn't know what they were doing. What if they did know what they were doing? Should they not be forgiven in that case?

Is there a difference in the way we should forgive when the person who's wronged us knows they're doing wrong vs doesn't know they're doing is wrong?

They might think they know what they are doing, but if they really knew how precious we are, then they would not have wronged us.

The Truth about forgiveness is:
To forgive others is to forgive ourselves for needing to forgive.

In other words, when were are true in Christ, we understand the truth of the matter.
  1. To be in Christ means we are fearless to discern the truth about ourselves and others.
  2. If we have wronged, then we seek forgiveness from God and made amends to others.
  3. If we are (so-called) wronged, then we are not in Christ, but in our fearful ego-self seeking revenge, respect and forgiveness. Only our fear of losing self-esteem, an ego trait, feels wronged. Christ is the Truth, and the Truth cannot be wronged for is incorruptible.
  4. While in Christ, we are in communion with the Spirit of God and Christ. There is nothing anybody can do to offend our ego-self, for it has been muted (no say in the so-called offense). We become unconditional and we can actually turn the other cheek without fear of losing self-esteem (ego-energy).
In this regard we, in Christ, see no reason to forgive others for they have not wronged us but themselves for not seeing their own truth. So, there really is nothing to forgive. We have become unconditional, which is what Truth is. Instead we express that Truth fearlessly as a person who understand their plight of a lost sheep, in an unconditional loving way.

It makes no difference on what their motives are. They "wronged" you. Maybe they meant it. Maybe it was a foolish gut reaction that they felt bad about later. It makes no difference.
Our job is to respond exactly how Jesus would. If we don't take offense at others actions towards us, 1. it releases us from hurt and pain and 2. it is witnessing the gospel to others.
Always responding in gentle fashion, God's children rather seek out the good of others. Whatever they want, give it to them. No, give them twice as much. Be willing to appear as the loser or under dog.
Forget about the way you might be made to look a fool. Take the higher road. Return good for evil.
Give evil nothing to oppose and it will dissipate in front of your eyes.

BlessUp.
