Dear Daily Message Readers,
READ: Leviticus 11:35-47
Leviticus 11:44 (NASB) "'For I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. And you shall not make yourselves unclean with any of the swarming things that swarm on the earth."
While doing some research for today's devotion, I came across a passage of scripture from the Old Testament book of Leviticus (see todays READ section). The Holy Spirit convicted me when I read over it and He asked me, "Why havent you read through Leviticus lately?" So that is what I did this morning. I read a few chapters and I have come to a few conclusions.
First, modern TV might reject this book's contents for a mini-series. You see, chapter after chapter contains tiny details about such things as diseases (skin to foot), forbidden sexual acts, mildew treatment, diet, bloody sacrifices, and elaborate cleansing rituals. Unless you have a tough stomach for the detailed accounts of laws and rituals, you don't want to be eating while you are reading.
Second, and I believe the most important, I am reminded of how holy God is and how awful sin must seem to Him. All the cleansings and the sacrifices in Leviticus call attention to His desire for us to be holy in attitude and action. This process is called consecration. And, as we read four gospel accounts in the New Testament, we see the same emphasis by the Lord. But Jesus Christ offers a once-for-all, deep-cleaning solution that eradicates all need for keeping laws. By His death He provided the way to cleanse our souls. Because of Jesus sacrifice on Calvary's cross, we dont need to worry about all those Levitical laws anymore.
Have you allowed Jesus to make you holy, clean, and pure before God, forgiven from all sin? Is a true, honest confession before the Lord a part of your daily devotional time? Faith Lesson: Even though we are not required to keep the Old Testament law for salvation purposes, the same Lord does require that we lay our sins before Him daily and acknowledge our mistakes in an attitude of repentance.
