The kids i watch are almost 6 and 2, the two year old, had to wear a helmet from birth until 18 months. My Friend's epidural worked so well she couldn't feel ANYTHING and couldn't help push out her own child. So they pulled him out using forceps which deformed his head. The helmet was tightened every 2 weeks to slowly change his skull back to a normal shape.

So this may be a completely bias story but I don't want forceps.

My SIL had a forceps delivery with her first, interestingly she also had an epidural which worked too well and she couldn't feel when too push. My nephews head wasn't deformed though, it was a bit squished out of shape but it soon settled into shape.

I was ignorant of the dangers of forceps when I had my first child. I didn't do any research because I figured doctors know best. Well I learned the hard way. My son has brain damage from being delivered by forceps. He has epilepsy and mild language delays and will be at high risk for learning disabilities. Thank God he's not severely handicapped, but I can't help feeling guilty for not educating myself.

My first (now 23.5 yrs old) was delivered by forceps. I had an epidural that worked too well, couldn't feel a Thing, and couldn't cooperate with the doctor. He gave me a huge episiotomy and pulled out my DD with the forceps. She had no problems from it.

Forceps aren't used much any more... The "replacement" that is now used more often is vacum extraction. An there is usually no "easing" the baby out when it's used. Doctors tend to SUCK that baby out way too quickly. There are many reasons Not to use this one too, so birthing your baby yourself is the safest way to go.

I had a forceps birth with my 2nd. child after 29 hours labor.
I don´t want a forceps again.
Oh bless your heart!

I'm thankful I did not need them. Something that is not commonly known, is that forceps are also used in c-sections when the baby is hard to get out, and unless you saw your records you may not even know.

I hope I never have to have a C section. Or forceps, it's just scary.

I had an emergancy c section after pushsing for four hours with my first and with my second they had to use a mighty vac! (He was face up with his hand by his head, 8' 12 and supposeidly to big for my birth canal.) ( After first c section they told me I would only be able to birth a 5 pound baby or less.) Now that was scary. I had pushed for four hours and he was like right there but out of reach. By the grace of My Lord and Savior I was able to have him natuarly.

My first was delivered with forceps. 3 hours of pushing and the vacuum wouldn't work because she had too much hair..it slipped off every time. She was sunny side up and 9 lbs...I'm on the small side. She had no side effects from it. I had the option of emergency c-section or forceps...I chose the forceps.
