Does it matter whose system it is? It is the one that you are trying to use and it is an outmoded system of classification. It has self contradictions in it.

You figure a whale is a fish, so of course you would think
a shark is too.

Only because I use a consistent classification system. You have not even given the basis of your classification system. Simply slapping names on groups is not a proper way to classify life.

A system that makes so little distinction that a whale is a fish
isn't much of a system.
Everything that isn't a fish must be a plant or a bug.

As somebody who normally considers the two of you to be rational, a question for each since I have lost track, what is the classification system you are using and a little why if you please?

The sharks are a CLASS of vertebrate, as are
such as the lamprey, the cow, the alligator, and,
yes, the fish, each in its own class.

That convention assigns things of the sea
the name "fish" (shell fish, whale fishery) is
just a convention.
If it amuses our friend to play equivocation
with the word. "fish", terrif.
I think it's lame and tiresome at best.

Xx has no meaning in this context.

People who think Asians can't drive should try
driving in Taipei, Manila, Saigon, Bangkok.

Sharks are in a subclass of Chondrichthyes, specifically Elasmobranchii (as was pointed out). They are not a separate class from fish. Rather they are a subclass of fish.

I said "the sharks" for convenience.
So bite me.
What is the "fish" class?

Don't forget that the subducting one said people are fish.

Understood, it actually refers to affluent Asian children who got their first driving license and their first often expensive car after arriving in my relatively small collegetown where few of us can afford the fancy cars they drive.

Culture is interesting.

What is the "fish" class?

There is no singular fish class. They are multiple taxonomic classes considered to be "fish".

Don't forget that the subducting one said people are fish.

He is probably referring to the fact that under cladistics, all of mammals including humans are part of the evolutionary subgroups derived from Sarcopterygii - Wikipedia (lobe-finned fishes).

Sarcopterygii (/ˌsɑːrkɒptəˈrɪdʒiaɪ/; from Greek: σάρξ sarx 'flesh' and πτέρυξ pteryx 'fin')—sometimes considered synonymous with Crossopterygii ("fringe-finned fish", from Greek κροσσός krossos 'fringe')—is a taxon (traditionally a class or subclass) of the bony fishes whose members are known as lobe-finned fishes. The group Tetrapoda, a superclass including amphibians, reptiles (including dinosaurs and therefore birds), and mammals, evolved from certain sarcopterygians; under a cladistic view, tetrapods are themselves considered a group within Sarcopterygii.

I know all that except for how you get a subunit
when there is no unit.

"Considered to be" is no more scientific about
sharks and cyclostomes than it is calling a clam a
shellFISH.

Well, I've been in all three + Ho Chi Minh City (keep up with the times) and I suppose it's a kind of driving, but if you like that sort of thing I recommend Cairo.
