• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

How was it like for you as the days went by.
I've quit on the patch and it was easier. The last day I removed the patch I didnt get cravings.
This time I didnt want to use the patch for other reasons. I got on quest nicotine free cigs, they have only traces of nicotine. I feel like my addiction is lessened by a ton, but its still hard.
I just dont feel like doing anything, I'm irritable.. How long does it take to start feeling normal, 30 days?

That's difficult to say - everyone is different. Just hold fast. Keep going and you will make it. I know how it is to do it as I have been there many times. I have never tried replacements - always been a cold turkey type. This time I have been strong for over 3 months. I don't get cravings anymore but sometimes just miss having something to do as I used it as my focus. As my life slowly changing I realise that there are more important things to fill my focusand time with which is great. Just focus on the fact that you have made it thus far it's only goping to get easier from here on.

I've quit before for about two weeks. That was tough. Then I got a job that stressed me out to the max so I took smoking up again only this time instead of smoking one or two cigarettes a day I smoke one or two packs a day. I don't see myself quitting anytime soon.

Are you still smoking? (I do not know what quest nicotine free cigs are)

When quitting the drug addiction of nicotine, I would recommend going through all seasons (a year of making non smoking memories). While it may only take 3 days to 1 month for the physical cravings to go away ... it takes longer for the mental cravings to go away. And it varies from person to person. And it requires work.

When the ex-smoker is in a situation that they use to smoke in, it creates a 'trigger' which out of habit makes the ex-smoker think of 'smoking'. The best way to get rid of mental triggers is to get busy placing non smoking memories on top of smoking memories so that our 'triggers' are not so strong. The weaker we make our triggers, the less chance they have of turning into full blown mental craves. After we spend time creating many non smoking memories to drown out the smoking memories, it will not be second nature to reach for a cigarette anymore.

Time, commitment to our quit, perseverance, and the Grace of God ... we can succeed in staying quit.

I was on Wellbutrin/Zyban...still tough
I also used a cinnamon stick to replace the cigarette with...only thing I was sucking in clean air and getting a nice cinnamony taste in my mouth.
Chewed alot of cinnamon gum, brushed my teeth alot...
after every meal and then some. Drank alot of water.
You can and will quit only when you want to. Until then you will have many goes at it...(Practice quits).
Good luck

Ive gone 8 months without...before then smoked over a pack a day. So if I can do it...anyone can.

Thank you for this information. I am struggling with quitting but am determined to quit.
