Hmm, if Jesus was over I would't sit in front of the TV in my underwear and eat leftovers, but that doesn't mean its bad for me. And what movie would be appropriate to screen for him is an excellent question. The Passion comes to mind. I'm sure we would laugh and laugh at how this or that really didn't happen this way or that way.
But seriously, one cannot judge right and wrong based on what is polite to do with company and what is not. I do lots of things that I wouldn't do with company.
And my kids don't notice or care about the magazine covers in the supermarket. I often see where people complain and have the market put something up in front of Cosmo to hide the cleavage. Now, I bet the kid of that parent noticed the breasts on the magazines from then on. Must be important if it makes mom and dad freak out.
read it all. i said the Christian has a higher calling, not you. i defended the use of the courts for inappropriate content protection. it will win. fear not. i am not a man who believes we can legislate our faith.
i have a feeling that Jesus would have a hard time laughing at "The Passion", even with it's inevitable errors. just my gut guess. but the point isn't what we watch with company, silly. Jesus is with us all the time, so when we put that movie in, we do have company. we try to live like him if we are doing this thing with any integrity, and i don't believe it would be the choice of entertainment for him. if he is what he says he is, can you imagine this scene? it's not the undies and the leftovers that Jesus admonishes, it is love that he preaches that is in conflict with inappropriate content. it is respect for humanity and the admonishment against sexual immorality that would make it an absurd offer to make to Christ. you have no such restriction in your philosophy, so the constitutional law is all the law you need, perhaps more. for us, we have a yoke of a higher calling, and it may surprise you, but we don't always like it. many would probably love to throw in a inappropriate content flick or go to an adult bookstore where the movie booths have holes between them to accomodate the patrons, but we have a cross to bear, and many of us Christians fall on our knees and beg for help because we know we are not up to the task of facing temptation alone. Christianity is a discipline. it is not a free pass to nirvana on earth. it is a realization that we passed on the utopia that was given us and have chosen this. and we regret it.
we look around and see destruction that we have made and can not reverse. some of that destruction has been to our own souls. don't be so sure about what your kids are subtly gleaning from those magazine racks. did you know that 50% of our middle school children are having oral sex? is that cool? they see no reason to not participate since everything they see is telling them to dive in at an age that the impressions made are indelible. it makes me mad only because you don't get to be a kid for long, and we are robbing them of close to half of it. this is not an attack on YOUR kids, but surely your concern for humanity extends beyond your four walls. kids have been effected by something in our culture.
as you know but did not address, i believe Jesus was right when he said the love of money is the root of all evil, and inappropriate content is HUGE money, because people want it. in our country they will always have it, at least if i have anything to say about it. constitutional law, man's law, is somewhat irrelevant to us. we honor it, until it conflicts with a higher law that we have willingly committed ourselves to. i will defend the constitution because it is what gives me the freedom to believe what i do without being prosecuted. just like it does for the inappropriate contentographer. but i still think it is killing us. i just fully anticipate the u.s. to implode from hubris and liberty. man's little countries and such have nothing to do with the kingdom of which we believe we are subjects. we believe man will be the earth's downfall. so murder us en masse, ye who pursue mammon as your god. in the end, there is no profit in it, nor any way to stop it, except God. this is what we believe. it is why i go to my knees from time to time. your philosophy bears no such yoke. there are many ways i envy you and my old life. but once you have been touched by him, there is no going back. some never are, and we will miss you.
