As for Iraq:
this current situation is here because Hussein signed a cease-fire agreement that said we would let him remain in power and "end" the gulf war on the basis that he would dis-arm. He said he would destroy ALL weapons of mass destruction etc.. He said Inspectors could some in and oversee that it was all destroyed. He kicked them out in '98 - He still had WMD - Currently - he has not proved nor even said that the weapons he had are destroyed. He will not say anything about the weapons we knew he had when the inspectors left in 98. So because he dodges that issue, one can only assume he still has them.

The coming war is a continuation of the gulf war. Hussein HAS NOT complied with the cease-fire agreement that HE signed

I am actually for war. I do not want to see us go to war, but I believe that if we don't we are only asking for another 9/11 day. My only joy in that is the possiblity of seeing my Jesus through death in a terrorist attack. I do believe that this war is going to happen, and I think it is neccessary.

I, like most people long for peace in life. I'm not a war monger, but I would not back down from a tyrant. Sadaam Hussein is one of the most evil men in power. I recently watched a special on the discovery channel called "The real saddaam." He is a murderor, rapist, and worse. He holds his people hostage. I feel that he should be stripped of his influence in the region. He harbors terrorists and threatens the world. He has weapons of mass destruction, no doubt. The weapons inspectors are NOT there to find them! They are there to offer him the OPPORTUNITY to present the weapons to them. He has not done so, and still he opperates. So, do we wait until we are attacked by the terrorists he influences? or do we wait till we discover "work" camps as we did in Germany? How much evil is enough to wage war on someone? And still France takes his word over Bush's. heh.

To be honest, i don't know!!

I do not like the prospect of War in the slightest... i mean if the guy has nukes or worse, whats gonna stoip him from using them when we start throwing bombs over his borders?!? - nothing! he, imho would simply press the big red button and send the USA and UK a couple of presents before we even get to him!

However, if he is as bad as you have outlines above, then we can't let him carry on doing this! He should have been removed form power a long time ago... but since he wasn't, we still have to deal with it!

But Bush should watch his behind... as i really cant see him hesitating to blow it away with a nuke! they should PROCEED WITH CAUTION imho.

in general, war is a last resort. if ever you can resolve a conflict through dipolmacy, no matter how sweet it would be to flex your international muscles, then you should take it. war is war; it's not a little bomb placed here and there to strategically oust a corrupt leader, but an event that leaves the social and economic fabric of a country in tatters leaving it vulnerable to anything/anyone, better or worse.

i suppose this question implies iraq... going to war, without any conclusive proof, because you want to prevent what can potentially happen if you don't act WILL set a dangerous precedence. what's next, arresting mr. jones because of what he may be thinking, not what he has done... thought crime anyone? that said, better safe than sorry, but then again such blatant disregard for the international community might earn america more enemies than it eliminates... tough call. :sigh:

War isn't necessarily, or inherently, a bad thing. It can be.

As for THIS war, I think I'm for it. Heh.

I mean come on, we might draw up some treaty, and WE'LL follow it, but from past experience, the other party won't :p

I'm not exactly sure what news you listen to, but there IS conclusive proof. Iraq failed to release statements of weapons that he has; he won't let his scientists be interviewed with out his Getapo-like police force around. This one really kills me: the weapons inspectors have been blocked from entering places SEVERAL times since they've been in Iraq this time around. They are asked to come back the next day. Of course all traces of anything are GONE... :( I don't know what kind of proof anyone is looking for, but just the fact that the inspectors haven't been allowed into places, are turned away and told to come back the next day breaks the agreement that the UN had with Iraq...

the UN is really rather silly. They haven't done muich of what they were formed to do ever. :)

Inspectors have constantly had trouble getting in there for quite a while, it seems. What happens in the US when you don't let a police officer into your house? you get in trouble ;)

i don't want this to turn into some debate on my accord, so i'll just agree that cammie's view is one way to look at it.

... another way is to remember that this is a pre-emptive strike: destroy them before they destroy us. that's how the orwellian mr. jones example comes up.

Today at 04:01 AM Laura said this in Post #17 (http://www.christianforums.com/showthread.php?postid=671253#post671253)

Oh yeah...there's nothing like a little murder to solve conflict.

Expand? Is that all your view, or do you just think war is murder, plain and simple?

I believe it's inevitable, whether I want it to happen or not. If America backs down now, North Korea is going to see that and continue it's nuclear bomb-making, and Sudaam will attack America's cities. Do you think he's going to back off if he's given free rein? There will be pain -- yes, that is a natural process in war. It has happened since the world began. Always, freedom has been bought with a price. Look at our freedom through Jesus Christ -- God had to give his son for that.

Anyway, that's my view.

Thank you Kookaburra! That was very well thought out. Don't worry about Laura, her problem is with ME, not my opinions. She feels the need to disagree with everything I say to try and cause a fight.

And Kookaburra--you're right. Sometimes innocent lives are lost for the greater good. Using Christ dying on the cross was an excellent example.
